The rot was stopped with a fantastic performance at Bulverhythe as the Battle side helped ensure the Neville Barnett Trophy returned to the men in orange.

A strong side featuring several key players returning from absence and injury took the game by the scruff of the neck and never loosened its grip. The away side were almost infront after four minutes, when a scrambled shot from Ollie Jeffs was forced onto the crossbar and out for a corner. Beulah then hit back on the counter, but failed to trouble keeper Simon Cutler and only found the side netting.

A handball in the Beulah box was not spotted by the referee as the away side exerted more pressure, before Doug Morris headed over when unmarked at a corner. With half time approaching it looked like the teams may go into the interval level, but a burst forward and composed finish from David Ndunduma put Battle into a deserved lead.

More of the same was the message at half time and Ndunduma took this on board as he skipped down the left wing and powered through on goal before beating the keeper with consummate ease. Jake Wilkinson then shot wide when through before Beulah unfairly got on the scoresheet when a blatant handball down the left was again missed by the referee and despite two excellent saves by Cutler the ball fell to the feet of Seedy Tambedou for a tap-in.

Ndunduma gave the Battle side some breathing space on the hour mark when he latched onto a long ball forward and lobbed the keeper from twenty yards, allowing manager Steve Mumford to ring the changes with Steve Chapman and Ben Garlick entering the fray. Chapman turned well and shot just over, before captain Chris Mammone was given a well-deserved break, being replaced by Stuart Calderwood. Ollie Jeffs shot wide after picking the ball up in midfield, before good work from Chapman and Ndunduma resulted in Calderwood finishing past the keeper for the Battle side’s fourth.

There was still time for Calderwood, Ndunduma and Scowen to all go close to adding a fifth, before the referee blew for full time. An excellent result that moves the Battle side away from the bottom of the table and, following the 3-1 victory by the first team, it also served to mean the Neville Barnett trophy was won by Battle Baptists 7-2 on aggregate.
