The Baptists continued their push to finish in the top half of the table after overcoming a foul-mouthed Belmont side that were lucky to only receive one red card and six yellows.

The action again started early with Stuart Batchelor on hand to divert in a low free kick from Zac Smith after only four minutes. Five minutes later and Belmont got an equaliser, but not without controversy. Their linesman flagged for a throw in to the away side, despite the fact the ball never got within two feet of the touchline. Directly from this throw the ball was hit over keeper Tim Nunn and into the net.

Nunn then twice saved the Baptists with good stops before Batchelor headed over when unmarked at a corner. Belmont took the lead with a scrappy second after Battle failed to clear the ball before on the half hour mark David Ndunduma was incorrectly pulled back for offside when he ran onto a through ball and lobbed the keeper.

Belmont then picked up the first of their bookings for dissent after repeated warnings from the referee, before Stuart Calderwood forced his way down the right and just sliced his shot wide.

Three minutes before half time Batchelor got his second when he cut inside onto his left foot and curled the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box. There was still time for Nunn to produce another fine double save to ensure the sides went in evens.

Having worked an excellent opportunity straight from the kick off with Ndunduma, Smith ballooned a shot over the bar after the ball bounced up on the hard ground. After a fairly even passage of play, the away side took the lead on fifty-three minutes with a swift counter attack down the left and a shot inside the near post.

The Baptists then hit back with a devastating spell of 5 unanswered goals as Belmont lost their cool on a hot afternoon on the South Coast.

Batchelor forced an own goal after pressurising a Smith free kick, before Ndunduma hit the post after a Batchelor flick took out the defence. Calderwood then forced another own goal when chasing down a seemingly hopeless cause and see the defender head the ball over his oncoming keeper.

With the home side in the lead the away team started flying in with some rash challenges and more bookings followed. One of the free kicks arising from this lead to the hat-trick for Batchelor following a superb delivery from Smith.

Ant Hunter came on for Calderwood, before Ndunduma belied his hamstring injury to beat the keeper and roll the ball home. Nunn then made another great stop as Belmont looked for a consolation, before Hunter broke clear having been played in by Smith and knocked in the home side’s seventh.

With the game won David took a deserved rest as Gordon and Richard entered the fray for the last two minutes.
