The seconds lost their first ever cup game but put in a good performance against a higher division side.

The game got off to the worst possible start as after a minute the Ports striker challenged Simon, who seemed to have two hands on the ball. The referee disagreed though and the goal stood.

Ten minutes later and it was two-nil as the Cinque Ports striker had enough time in the box to strike the ball into the bottom corner.

There then followed a spell of Baptist pressure when good passing and movement in midfield and upfront split the home defence up on several occasions. Debutant Luke worked two opportunities in five minutes, when his lob over the goalkeeper floated just wide, and then he shot just past the post when the keeper had saved well from Zac.

Some good goalkeeping from Simon ensured the deficit was kept to two at half time. Rafa came on at halftime for Anthony as Richard looked to change things round in an effort to get back in the game.

Early in the second half Matt came on for a tiring Joe but shortly after the task became harder as in a carbon copy of the second goal, the Ports striker had enough time in the box to get his shot away and place it in the corner.

Try as they might the Battle side could not get a consolation, with the home defence cutting out any ball up to the front two. It took some committed defending from the entire Battle side, especially when caught on the break, to keep the scoreline at three.

With five minutes to go, an accidental collision with Matt left a Ports defender with a blooded nose, but other that that there was little incident late on as Ports progressed through to the next round.
