The players, officials and supporters of the 2nds had to endure another frustrating afternoon as the Baptist side narrowly lost another high-scoring contest.

After a delayed start due to the referee forgetting his shirt, the home side got off to a great start when a surging run down the right by Jake ended with a home defender bundling the ball in his own net at the near post after Jake fired in a low cross.

Minutes later Elite were almost on level terms but Tim was out sharply to make the striker rush his chance and put it wide. They did get level on twenty one minutes though as a high ball was pumped forward and the bounce outdid the defence and the Hastings striker headed home.

This spurred on the home side and a spell of possession and pressure almost resulted in a second on numerous occasions. Willing running from the front two troubled the away defence and the ball just wouldn’t fall right to present an opportunity.

Two goals in three minutes just before half time rocked the Battle side and changed the course of the game. A defensive slip let in a run on goal for the second then another ball over the top saw Tim tackle the Elite forward but the man in yellow was the first on his feet to knock the ball home.

The was still just enough time for Luke to be incorrectly hauled back for offside after he had chipped the goalkeeper but the home side went into the break wondering how they were suddenly two goals down.

Any thoughts of getting back into the game early were undone five minutes into the half when a superbly judged lob found the roof of the net after Tim had done well to come out and hurry the opposition striker who was through on goal.

Chris then came off for Loksan and a switch to 4-4-2 followed. The remainder of the match saw almost unmatched Baptist pressure, with only sporadic Elite attacks. On the hour mark Elite cleared off the line from a corner, before Zac came on for Jake.

Dale then netted the first ever second team penalty when there was some shoving in the box by the away side at a free-kick. Having put it away in the corner he was bizarrely made to retake it due to the goalkeeper not being on his line. This made no difference as he gave the keeper no chance a second time.

Quarter of an hour of sustained attacking, featuring good link up play down the right from Luke and Josh and the left from Seb and Loksan, could not force a third when on eighty two minutes the game was put out of side when a confident finish rolled past a despairing Wes.

The Baptists had the last word though as great skill by Loksan ended with Luke beating the keeper in the air and Zac followed up his header to make sure the defender could not clear off the line. In the last move of the match Tim produced a great double save to ensure an even second half.
