Following some great recent results, Battle finally came undone against a strong and physically intimidating Little Common side. Though the game should prove a good learning experience for the Battle side, they well matched their opponents for the majority of this match, especially the second half, and can hold their heads high.

On a scorching hot day at Little Common, Battle actually started the better and Bryan Leggett saw a great chance go begging as he volleyed straight at the keeper from just a few yards. Little Common started to press and made their threat evident, especially in the air and came close when a great turn and shot smashed off Tim Nunn’s crossbar. They finally took the lead in fortuitous manner when a long free kick was misjudged by the Battle keeper who could only watch it land over his head and bounce into the goal. The Battle heads temporarily dropped and this allowed Little Common to get a second from close range after some good work down the left.

The second half was a different affair as Battle managed to impose themselves on the game and this was rewarded after  great move released Dave Mills down the right who sprinted on and cut inside before finishing brilliantly across the keeper. An equaliser looked on the cards but Battle couldn’t quite find the killer touch and the game was put out of question once some hesitancy in the Battle defence allowed the winger in to finish well past keeper Nunn. Little Common were lucky to finish with eleven men when a deliberate handball stopped Gary Walsh shooting on goal and was only punished with a yellow card, but all in all Battle can have no complaints from a hard fought match.
