A display full of quality and character was
not enough to save the Baptists from defeat at the hands of Pelham. Despite
several absentees, including key senior players like Steve Chapman and David
Ndunduma the home side put in a tremendous performance that really tested the
league leaders.
The game had to be stopped for 15 minutes
early on, when a Pelham player fell awkwardly after a collision with Matt Lee
and had to go to hospital with a broken wrist.
Pelham got their noses in front in the first
half before a dominant second half display saw the men in orange draw level
when Ollie Jeffs rose highest to power home a Dale Scowen corner kick.
The Battle side had chances to win the game
through Zac Smith, Dom Fowler and Scowen before a cruel bounce in the last few
minutes did for keeper Grant Lewis and the Pelham forward was left with the
simple task of tapping the ball in for a hard-earned yet undeserved victory.
