Again the Baptists
were involved in a six-goal thriller, however this week the goals were not in
favour of the away side.
Featuring many
changes due to call-ups to the first team and up against a determined Pelham
side for the third time in four games, the Battle side were under pressure from
the first minute. Assured goalkeeping and committed defending kept the score
goalless until the 22nd minute when a deep cross was headed in at
the far post.
Ten minutes before
half time it was two-nil as a quick break down the host’s right ended with a
straightforward chance clean through on goal. Jack then came on for Stuart just
before half time.
Two goals in three
minutes just after half time sealed the match. Ineffective tackling in the
centre allowed the Peche midfielder to break through and loft the ball over Tim
for the third, before a long goal kick was flicked on and buried for the
fourth.
On the hour mark the
away side thought they had pulled one back when a trademark Dale free kick
appeared to be fumbled over the line by the home goalkeeper, but the referee
rejected the appeals of the men in orange and play resumed.
Excellent work on
the line from Doug stopped a fifth on seventy minutes, but the respite was only
short as another scramble in the goalmouth saw the ball poked home. Five
minutes later the scoring was complete as a superb free kick from twenty yards
out was arrowed into the top corner.
The away side
finished the match on the attack, with Matt having shot tipped over the bar
after a great run down the right. This was a massively disappointing result
given the previous match but considering the constant pressure Peche Hill
exerted it was a good defensive performance by Tim and the back four to keep it
down to 6.
