A welcome return to
action after a two month layoff saw the Baptists almost turn the tables on the
side who beat them last time out.
The side had an
experienced look to it, increased by the presence of two debutants in Max and
David and a welcome return to action from leg break victim Stuart.
The home side
dominated the first 20 minutes and after successive corners finally got a goal
to show for it as Ollie Jeffs shot home a ball that had broken loose in the
area.
On the half hour
mark Peche equalised when a bouncing ball in defence led to Steve, and Max challenging
for the same ball which, thanks to a blatant push, fell for the Peche striker
to knock over the stranded Simon.
Ten minutes later the
away side took the lead when slow reactions at a free kick left the Peche Hill
captain unmarked at the far post to volley home.
The men in orange
regrouped at half time with Zac Smith coming on for Stuart Calderwood, who had
done a great job out of position on the left wing, as the side shifted to a
4-5-1 formation.
This seemed to have
the desired effect as within seven minutes of the restart the hosts were back
infront. A breakdown from a corner saw David poke home his first for the club, then when he was crudely chopped down when about to score
his second Dale powered home the resulting penalty.
The Baptists then
looked likely to go forward and stretch their advantage but a good set piece
saw the away side equalise again when a near-post corner was flicked into the
roof of the net.
Both sides had
chances to get the winner with David going close in another goalmouth scramble
and being denied another penalty when the Peche Hill defender appeared to
handle the ball on the deck. At the other end Simon produced two great stops to
deny the dangerous number ten upfront for Peche.
Jake came on for
Luke after he took a knock late on but could not get on the scoresheet as the
game finished 3-3. This is a game both sides feel they should have won but to
turn round a 4-0 defeat from the last match against the same opposition has to
be a great source of encouragement for us. Excellent performances throughout
the side meant we competed well in every area and having David upfront gave a
whole new dimension to our play. Considering his lack of sleep due to work
commitments it was an exceptional performance.
