Two goals in 2 second half minutes turned the game around in favour of White Knight at a blustery Sports Park.

The windy conditions made it difficult for players to keep the ball on the ground, levelling both teams in a closely fought contest. Neither team created clear chances the 30th minute when Tom Frere-Smith cut through the Knight defence and saw his fierce shot athletically tipped round the post by the keeper. From the resulting corner, a determined Adam Staplehurst fired home a 12-yard shot to give first advantage to the visitors.

Happy to absorb pressure and hit White Knight on the break, Battle created more chances and should have extended their lead. Before half time Frere-Smith danced down the right and squared a pass to Ollie Jeffs who skied his shot with the goal gaping. Gary Walsh smashed a 20 yard volley goal bound bringing another spectacular finger tip save from the keeper.

After the break another Walsh effort was thwarted by a defender’s last-ditch interception before the Baptist defence twice failed to clear their box and Dan Chapman took his chance to equalise. Moments later, White Knight turned the match on its head with a goal from Tom Haddon who capitalised on hesitancy in the Baptist defence to shoot past a powerless Andy Poulter in goal.

Although Battle finished the stronger and looked the more likely team to score in the latter stages, they couldn’t find the goal that would have secured a point.
