TRAINING TOPS - ORDER NOW!!!

It's about time to ressurect the order for training tops that I started to collect at the end of last season.
We will be ordering T-shirts, sweatshirts, training tops, tracksuit tops and tracksuit trousers all in the NEW Club Colours and with the Club emblem. Everything is slightly subsidised by the Club to keep the cost down, because all the stuff is good quality sportswear.
You can see the goods and make an order either at training or on Saturday at a game.
Anyone who ordered before will need to confirm that they still want the gear before I put the order in. I aim to complete the order by mid November so don't miss and moan!!!

2nds yesterday

Quick note regarding the seconds yesterday. While obviously we are disappointed to lose without scoring, I think there is a lot we can take from the game.
Cinque Ports were very sharp upfront and in defence and I think this is something we can learn from. Their centrebacks hardly ever got involved in a footrace with our strikers as they always attacked any through-ball and nearly always intercepted it. We did not do this and quite often found ourselves having to turn and give chase at the back. To counter this we need to hold a higher line in defence and meet the ball in the air and not let it bounce.
Similarly in attack, their second and third goals came from snapshots in the box. The forward worked half a yard of space and got his shot away and we need to add the clinical nature to our game. We won't score if we don't have shots, its as simple as that. At this level goalkeepers will not save everything so the law of averages means enough shots on target should result in a goal.
On the positives, I though our centre-backs dealt with the physicality well and Luke Walker did not look out of place in the side at all. Most impressive for me was the way we all mucked in and defended as a team, especially at times when a 'scramble defence' was needed. I honestly think if we had played the same game at the start of the season we would have conceded twice the number of goals.

We are back on the league trail next week and with Beulah losing heavily again this weekend our league position has been further strengthened. Our opponents, Hastings Elite, got absolutely thrashed by Benbow in the cup yesterday so they will be looking to bounce back against us. We will need to defend well and take any chance that comes our way.

I look forward to seeing you all at training on Wednesday, as always please let me know of your availability asap.

CHIN UP!!!

However disappointing it is to have lost yesterday we stay positive and cheerful.
There were some very possitive things to emerge, not least of all being the performance of Bryan. He would admit himself that he's not yet fully fit and (like Wayne Rooney) will need a few more games to reach his best. But the way he collected Adam's through ball and rounded the keeper to level at 1-1 gives us much encouragement.
We are going through a tough patch at the moment, just like any tean that is rebuilding. We've seen changes to the team since last year and it would be nice to just carry on winning but that's not generally what happens when you change personnel. It will take time before we re-adjust. I personally think that we have better players and we need to be calm and patient...if we aim to enjoy our football the performances will improve...we look a little tense. I do think that it's time to go back to basic principles and that's what I'll be emphasising in pre-match discussions. Training is important too because we must adopt good habits in training so that we carry these through to Saturday.
Everyone in our Division dropping points. I don't think there is a team that is so strong that it will run away from the rest as Hastings Rangers did last year.
We should all understand that in life, when you go through hardships, you come out of it all the stronger. So do not be discouraged...be strong in character and KEEP YOUR CHINS UP.

News Update

My apologies that the website has not been updated much over the last week but access to IT has been limited as I am in the midst of decorating! Everything should be up to date, including the fixtures which came out for the full month today.
Can I ask that everyone lets both myself and Gary know of their availability for November. Our email addresses are in the Club Info section, or feel free to give one of us a call (bear in mind Gary is away for the next couple of days).

LEARN FROM SATURDAY

I'm back in Town now after witnessing my Dad's confirmation on Sunday night in Rotherham. It put's football into context and reminds me that there are many other important things that we can be thankful for.

Saturday's game is best forgotten but not until we learn from what happened. We went through a very uncharacteristic 20 minute period in which we conceded 5 goals. Uncharacteristic because we seemed to lose the will to compete and heads visibly dropped - very unlike us!!.
We can't simply strike the experience from our memory as though it was a one-off. Individually and collectively let's reflect and understand how we might have avoided such a collapse.
See you at training on Wednesday.

Table News

A bonus yesterday for the 2nd team as Beulah suffered a heavy defeat and so go below us on goal difference. This means we are now off the bottom and, given we do not have a league game for another fornight, it would be great if we could stay there until we return to action.

BRYAN A BLOW!!

Bryan Leggett has had to withdraw from Saturday's 1st team squad to play Magham Down due to a hamstring problem.

I'll give it some time to rethink the team and it's likely that the reshuffled pack won't be out on the website until Friday night. Until then, don't read too much into the positions you see on the teamsheet.

2nd team performance

Just a quick note to say thank you to the efforts of all involved in the 2nds yesterday. This covers the experienced players, the youngsters, the management team and the great crowd.

Although we have not had the best of Septembers results-wise, we have deserved to win two of the last three games and have been unlucky to only get 1 point from them. We showed great character to come back from 4-2 down against Wadhurst and if we take this spirit and resolve forward the wins will come.
We have a 3 week break from competitive action now so in that time please come along to training as well as supporting the first team this weekend. Dont forget the breakfast this Saturday!

WONDERFUL WIN!!

I want to pay tribute to the 15 heros that were involved in yesterday’s terrific 1-0 victory over Battle Rangers in the 1st round of the Hastings FA Junior Cup.

After a really slow start we battled away in a bruising encounter that in the latter stages saw Pete subbed with cramp in both legs, Adam struggling on with a badly bruised rib and Alan playing through to the end after a characteristic tackle left him with an agonisingly sore shin bone.
Once we had overcome the first 20 minutes of intense pressure, we began to play well and created the better chances, having 2 good penalty appeals turned down before sealing victory with a superb move down the right wing that involved 5 players ending with a shot into the top right corner of the Rangers net.
I still don’t think we’re at our best but the manner of the win is testimony to the great character of the players who are prepared to give everything to the team.
There’ll be more than a few aching muscles come Monday morning but we can enjoy the week knowing that we earned the win.
The win sets up an away trip to Cinque Ports in the 2nd round, due to be played on Sat 18th November. Cinque Ports, currently 3rd off the bottom in Div 5, won through on penalties after finishing 2-2 with Wadhurst II.

Next week, our God has organised the fixtures so that the 2nds don’t have a game. This coincides with 4 first team regulars not being available requiring a whole new midfield. So there’s potential for some 2nd team players to make an appearance in the Division 3 fixture away at Magham Down.

On behalf of everyone in the Club, can I thank Chris Mammone for organising both the paintballing and the meal at Cosmos. I’d like to dedicate our win against Battle Rangers to Paul Ford who gets married to Jenny in 2 weeks time.

Next Saturday morning, the Club is organising another PLAYERS’ BREAKFAST at the Manna House (Mount Street). This is a social event that was hugely enjoyed last time and there have been many requests for it to be repeated. Please support it if you possible can. The time is 9 until 11 and we’ll be sitting down to eat the full English breakfast at 9:30am. There is no charge.
