CRANBROOK v BBFC I AWAY ***3pm KO***

Sat 4th Sept 2010 1st TEAM

Team to play Cranbrook - ESFL Div 3

1.Tim Nunn

2.Adam Staplehurst, 4.Nic Gooch, 5.Rob Jordan, 3.Ollie Jeffs

8.Paul Rook, 6.Adam Gooch, 7.Andy Mills(c), 11.Rhys Bennett,

9.Gary Walsh, 10.Tim Walsh,

Subs: 12.Matt Lee, 13.Pete Cooper, 14.Timm Smith, 15., 16., 17..

Unavailable:Andy Poullter, Doug Cox, Jamie Relf, Alan Cowley
Cranbrook's normal home pitch at Angley School is NOT READY to be played on yet so we'll be playing at TN17 3JN which is in the centre of Cranbrook. Unfortunately this venue has NO CHANGING FACILITIES so we'll be changing at Battle Rec before travelling.

*** Meet at Battle Rec at 1:30pm ***.

We've enjoyed a great run-in to the season, scoring plenty of goals, competing very strongly and playing excellent football. However, we still need to be cautious of complacency and be certain to make a solid start. Cranbrook we promoted from Division 4 to 3 last year and I expect them to be full of confidence.
It's been very difficult to decide who should play in the starting eleven. I've gone for those that have played well and built up match fitness during the 3 pre-season games. The selection gives us flexibility to make the changes that will enable the subs to get match competitive too.
Can't wait for the season to kick off and it all begins on Saturday.

BBFC II v Sandhurst II HOME ***3pm KO***AT BATTLE REC*****

Sat 4th Sept 2010 2nd TEAM

9.Rob Usherwood, 10.Joe O'Neill,

Subs: 12.Darren Wilkinson, 13.Andy Oliver, 14.Brian Fitzgerald, 15.Will Foster, 16., 17..

This game is at Battle Rec - NOT CLAVERHAM. Meet at the Rec for 2pm. Text me if there's a problem.

With 22 players to choose from this week and only able to select 15, it means that 7 players are dissapointed. For that I can only apologise. Please be patient with us - opportunities will come.
I'm always excited at this time of the season about the challenges that lie ahead. The effort and work rate in pre-season has been good, but still room for improvement. I will be looking for us to improve on how we retain the ball and recycle it when under pressure.
I'm sure Sandhurst will provide a tough test. Expect them to be a well organised, and strong team. We have to be at our best if we are to come out on top. Please be on time and ready to work hard, play well, have fun and WIN!!

1ST TEAM SQUAD for game against Peasmarsh & Idan Sat 28th Aug.
1st team - KO 3pm at Peasmarsh
meet at the Church Car Park in Mount Street at 1:30pm ...or 2pm at the pitch (The Maltings) in Peasmarsh TN31 6ST
Let me know if you're going straight there - otherwise we'll be waiting at the church and may not have enough cars to travel.

IF YOU'RE NOT AVAILABLE - CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY by EMAIL bbfcmanager@aol.com text or call.

DEFINITELY AVAILABLE:
Rhys Bennett, (Doug Cox), Jamie Crouch, Adam Gooch, Ollie Jeffs, Rob Jordan, Matt Lee, Andy Mills, (Dave Mills), Ray Pennells, Paul Rook, Adam Staplehurst, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh.
I'm still waiting confirmation of availability from Doug and Dave.

UNAVAILABLE: Ariel Cano, Alan Cowley, Pete Cooper, Nic Gooch, Pat Mammone, Tim Nunn, Joe O'Neill, Andy Poulter, Ian Rafati, Jamie Relf, Timm Smith, Max Sztyber, Pete Young.

I received some sad news yesterday when Ariel texted me to say that he is returning to Argentina at the start of the season. He was intending to stay in the UK until Xmas time but there has been a change of plan and his flight is booked for the 14th September. Hope to get more news from him soon.
Saturday's game is an extra fixture arranged hastily this week - we had intended to have a training session. The game will give me a good chance to sort out a few selection headaches before our 1st League game on the 14th away to Cranbrook. We have a very strong squad and in central midfield a could perm any 2 players from 4 and I still need to figure who will play up front alongside Alan.
Peasmarsh had 3 teams but have lost players to Rye this season and have had to fold their Div 1 side. Saturday's team will consist of some Premier team players and some from the Div 2 side we played last season. It's our stiffest challenge so far and gives a great pre-season rehersal.
As usual, we'll talk it all through in the Senlac afterwards.

1ST TEAM SQUAD for game against Battle Rangers(H) Sat 21st Aug.
1st team - KO 3:30pm at Battle Rec
meet at the Rec in Battle by 2:30pm ...earlier if you want to watch the 2nds.

IF YOU'RE NOT AVAILABLE - CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY by EMAIL bbfcmanager@aol.com text or call.

DEFINITELY AVAILABLE:
Rhys Bennett, Alan Cowley, Jamie Crouch, Paul Ford, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch, Rob Jordan, Andy Poulter, Paul Rook, Timm Smith, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh, Pete Young.
One or two who are playing at 1:30 may join us if they are up for it as well. It's important not to play on any injuries if doing so will just aggrevate them. We're only 2 Saturdays away from starting Div 3 now.

UNAVAILABLE: Ariel Cano, Pete Cooper, Doug Cox, Ollie Jeffs, Matt Lee, Andy Mills, Pat Mammone, Tim Nunn, Joe O'Neill, Ian Rafati, Jamie Relf, Adam Staplehurst, Max Sztyber.

This is a great chance to get plenty of game time in preparation for the season starting on the 4th Sept. Rangers will be a stiff challenge.
Again the idea is just to enjoy the day and build up some much needed match fitness. It would be excellent to see some of the things we've been rehersing in training coming through on the pitch.
Afterwards we'll talk it all through in the Senlac.

2ND TEAM SQUAD for game against Guestling Rangers II(H) Sat 21s Aug.
2nd team - KO 1:30pm at Batle Rec
meet at the Rec in Battle by 12:30pm ...pls don't keep us waiting.

IF YOU'RE NOT AVAILABLE - CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY by EMAIL bbfcmanager@aol.com text or call.

DEFINITELY AVAILABLE:
Stuart Batchelor, Lee Boyd, Erik Chapman, Owen Davies, Brian Fitzgerald, Will Foster, Dominic Fowler, Michael Green, Sam Harrison, Nat Nunn, Ray Pennels, Phil Reade, Zac Smith, Rob Usherwood, Darren Wilkinson, Luke.

UNAVAILABLE:
Andy Oliver, Dave Mills, Troy Parsons, Dave Sitch,Tim Nunn, Tom Holdaway.

After last weeks encouraging performance, Guestling Rangers new second team will present another stiff challenge.
The meesage for the weekend has to be to keep the ball better. We need a less frantic approach when we are in possession, and a willingness to recycle the ball and start again when a forward pass is not on.
Despite some withdrawls and some call ups to the 1st team, its anothe big squad. I'll be looking to give everyone a good run out prior to our opening league fixture on 4th Sept.
Please try to hang aroung after the game to show your support for the first team who kick off against Battle Rangers at 3:30.

1ST TEAM SQUAD for game against Eastbourne Dynamos(H) Sat 14th Aug.
1st team - KO 1:30pm at Batle Rec
meet at the Rec in Battle by 12:30pm ...pls don't keep us waiting.

UNAVAILABLE:
Ariel Cano(work), Pete Cooper(hols), Doug Cox(work), Pat Mammone(hols), Andy Poulter(family illness), Ian Rafati(hols), Jamie Relf(injured), Max Sztyber(hols).

When you look at the quality of the seven unavailable players, it's remarkable that we can still field such a strong squad of 15 players for this friendly against our friends from Eastbourne.
I'll be looking to give everyone a good amount of play time in this first outing. I've no doubt that Dynamos will provide a stiff challenge even at this stage in the year.
The idea is though, just to enjoy the day and build up some much needed match fitness before the season starts on 4th September.
I would ask that you don't shoot off straight after the game but to show your support for the second team who kick off against Herstmonceux at 3:30.

Firstly I have to congratulate the side on the win and the performance on Wednesday. Our first win of the season was well-overdue and fully deserved. We had a plan and every player in the team played thier role brilliantly - well done - what a great feeling.
Secondly, if I were Doug Cox I'd be wondering what on earth was happening with selection. Truth is I haven't made up my mind what formation to play yet and if it's 442 Doug will start.
Since losing to Northiam we have been playing better and better. Under increasingly difficult circumstances with injuries, we've welcomed second team players into the team and they have risen to the challenge superbly. Both individually and collectively I can see us getting stronger by the game.
Saturday is the last game of this season and though we are relegated already I'm keen once more that we simply go out, compete strongly and fairly, and more than anything, enjoy our beautiful game.
Looking forward to our second league win.

It's always difficult to predict evening fixtures. You never know what the opposition might turn out. Ticehurst have faultered in the League since they lost their Wisden's Challenge Cup Final 3-2 to Eastbourne Galaxy, who knocked us out in the semi. They have had to play a lot of fixtures recently in order to catch up their backlog. Last Saturday they were surprisingly well-beaten 7-0 at home to Old Town Athletic.
All this gives us great hope that we can achieve our first league win of the season on Wednesday. I have a great plan that will work with the players we have available and that's why I haven't yet named the attack. It's certain to keep us on our toes and if you look at the subs you may be able to speculate about my plan. All will be revealed when we arrive, so try to arrive as close to 5:30 as you can possibly make.
I know I'm repeating myself when I say that it's a great priviledge to be playing football but even though we're already relegated I'm still excited about every game and the prospect of winning.
Can't wait for Wednesday!
It's time to be thinking about who you'll vote for in the awards this year. To see what awards there are, take a look at the NEWS page...you may have to scroll down a bit to see them.
You'll also want to buy your ticket for the Presentation Dinner on Friday 28th May...it's £15 if you've paid your membership (otherwise £25). I'll have tickets at the games on Wed and Sat. Just ask.

Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Dave Mills, Alan Cowley, Pete Cooper, Ollie Jeffs, Matt Lee, Adam Johnson, Ian Rafati, Jamie Relf, Paul Rook, Adam Staplehurst.
Still awaiting news on the fitness of Ben and Joe. Sadly, Paul Rook is the latest player to be nobbled so he can't play. Jamie Crouch has a slight knee problem and I've decided not to take him in this game. Pete Cooper is still at large somewhere in Europe but hopefully will return soon.

With just three games left in the season we're due a win!!!
There's no pressure of relegation anymore so we can relax and enjoy playing football, with our eyes on a good start to next season. Of course, if we sit back and let our opponents play, we understand that we'll lose. Cinque Ports are a very physical team and we will need to match their strength.
A week ago we played well in the first half and were 3-1 up at the break. We know they score plenty of goals but are vulnerable defensively and it's great to have a strong attacking subs bench.

Whatever the score is we'll be going out Saturday evening. Please try and make it if you can. 6pm in the Senlac tehn into Hastings from there. Give me a call if you want to join up with us along the way or at the curry house.

Subs: 12.Brian Fitzgerald, 13. 14.Nat Nunn, 15.Erik Chapman.

Meet at Zion Chapel, Mount St. for 1:35pm or Bexhill Road (tip end) for 2:00pm. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Ben Garlick, Stuart Batchelor, Dave Sitch, Jake Wilkinson.
With 2 games left and lying 3rd from bottom, we are not yet sure of survival. One more win should be enough.
We are bouyed this week by the inclusion of the Gooch brothers and with Toby back up front. HG Aerospace are a young and energetic side who currently lie 3rd in the division. We can expect a tough physical challenge, but I know that if we all perform to the best of our abilities, we are a match for any team in this division.
Having watched the first team earn two draws and a narrow last minute defeat over the last 7 days, it struck me how good and competitive some of the players are in our football team are. Where we fall down often is the lack of consistency in our performance, coupled with sometimes poor concentration leading to cheaply conceded goals.
We have two more chances this season to show what a good side we are....defend well, boss the midfieled and score goals.....what could be simpler!!
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

It's hard for me to talk football on this Sunday morning after the game we played yesterday when we deserved so much more. But at least this week we only have two days before we can get it out of our system.
Having not played Cinque Ports yet this season, there's not a lot we know about them. From the League table and results you'll see they score plenty of goals but they also let plenty in as well.
I'm ever optimistic that this is the game when we will both defend well AND score goals, so I'm looking forward to the game with eagerness.

Future Fixtures...the 1sts don't have a game on Sat 17th but we have been given another evening fixture on Mon 19th against Hurst at Home. make sure that you keep your diaries free for this one.

Sorry about the delay in announcing the squad this week. I've been away for a few days.
I wanted to keep the same wonderful team that played so well last week but neither Joe or Pete are available. However, we are blessed to have Toby and Rafa as replacements.
Last weeks 0-0 draw with Div 2 leaders Ninfield was excellent and it only lacked one thing - a goal. In Toby we have a natural goalscorer who we are hoping will convert the chances we're creating.
Our defence has been excellent since the last time we played Northiam and I'll eat my hat if we conceded 6 goals again in this rematch. Northiam are a big physical team and we'll need to show the same application and attitude as last week.
I'm really looking forward to this one because I really believe that this will be a win for us. Whether we can fully avenge the 6 goal defeat of last time will surely depend on others joining Toby on the scoresheet - unless that is, Toby can get six for us.

There's no point selecting the starting lineup until I know that everyone has come throught the games on Saturday uninjured.
Ninfield are joint top of Division 2 having won 10 of their 15 games. They have quick players who are able to counter-attack quickly, especially down the flanks. The 5-1 defeat earlier in the season was one of the few games when we were well and truly beaten. We didn't give a good account of ourselves that day, conceding 3 goals in the first half.
Things are very different now. Our attitude is stronger and more resilient. Although we're second favourites to win this one, we have a strong team out and I can detect an upset, especially if we dominate like the 2nd half against Herstmonceux.
A big thanks to those players who are putting themselves out to come back for this Easter Monday game.
Get to the Rec for 2pm so we can have our usual build up to KO.

Meet at Zion Chapel, Mount St. for 1:25pm or Barley Lane, Hastings for 2:00pm. [If you need directions to the ground, PLEASE ASK...DON'T GUESS] PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Ben Garlick.
What a week it's been. It took me ages to get over the dissapointment of last weeks performance and then as the week progressed it became apparent that 14 players who might otherwise command a starting role in either team were unavailable for various reasons.
Having said all of that, I REMAIN IN GOOD SPIRITS AND CONFIDENT OF GETTING A GOOD WIN AT THE WEEK END.
This week we see Steve Chapman out of retirement, the experienced Brain Fitz earning a start in midfield and Toby Blackman back up front to hopefully give us some much needed goals. Add to that Seb Elliott, back from Uni and on the bench along side Nat and Jake. It's another strong set of players with the potential to do really well.
Tackleway have suffered in much the same way as we have in recent weeks. We cannot afford to underestimate them. Work ehtic will be the theme of my team talk on Saturday, something that was lacking in large parts of last weeks game. Saturday is an opportunity to pick ourselves up, and to show what a good side we are. Stick together as a team, take personal responsibility for your own performance and we will be successful.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

Training went very well last night and it's really easy to see the improvemnets we are making in the areas that we're working on. It's very possible that we'll be back on the grass next Wednesday so keep your ears open for news on that one. It will depend on the condition of the pitch at Claverham which at this moment is soggy so say the least.
The unavailability list gets bigger each week but this weekend is unusual. A number of players are away for Easter but back on Monday for the bank Holiday game. I'll put out the final squad for that game tomorrow.
The team for Saturday has an amazingly new look to it. We welcome in a number of players from the 2nds but they all have previous experience with our first team.
Last week, we gave our opponents too much of a head start before making an impressive fight back. This week we'll be keen not to give away early goals. It was encouraging how we kept battling despite being 3 down at half time and in the second half we looked by far the better team.
We don't know much about Cinque Ports but they do score 2 goals per game so I expect a good attack at the least. They are second bottom in the Division so they will be fighting hard for points to avoid relegation, but we're due some reward for our recent good performances. If we match their efforts, we can expect that winning feeling again by quarter to five on Saturday.

Unavailable:Toby Blackman; Brian Fitzgerald; Paul Ford; Ben Garlick; Tim Nunn; Andy Oliver; Pauk Rook; Joe O'Neil; Pete Young.
I've named a squad this week rather than a starting line up as a number of players are unavailable again. I'll address some of the shortcomings from last week before the game on Saturday. We need to pick ourselves up from what was a very poor allround performance and put in a performance I know we are capable of. When we play well and everyone is 'on their game' we are a match for any team in this division. Hastings Elite will present another tough challenge, but one we are equal too if we stick together and give our best performance.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!!

Meet at Church for 11:45am. No lateness please.
***NOTE THE 1pm Early Kick Off Time***
Let me know if you are going straight to Herstmeonceux for 12 noon. We don't want to be waiting at church for you.
Unavailable: Dave Mills, Andy Poulter, Alan Cowley, Matt Lee, Adam Johnson, Ariel Cano, Doug Cox, Lee Costen, Andy Oliver, Adam Staplehurst.

Just 2 enforced changes to last week's starting line up. Doug isn't available instead we have Jamie, who played so well against P&I 2 weeks ago and was unlucky to be ineligeable for last Saturday's semi, and somewhere between Canada and Kenya, Ollie is home to grab the second striker's position as both Ariel and Joe aren't able to play.
This is a dream ticket for Ollie who has been pestering me for months to give him another opportunity to show his attacking qualities...this is the perfect moment for him to score some goals for us.
With quality on the bench in the form of Rhys and Rafa, this is another talented side, showing again how fortunate we are to have such great depth.
The result last week was disappointing but the performance was again very encouraging, as was the attitude of all our players. The challenge now is to compete just as stiffly in our League games as we've done in the cup.
With other teams at the bottom of Division 2 picking up points it will take a mammoth effort to avoid relegation this season. We have eight games left and I estimate that we need to win six. So let's start confidently with a win this Saturday at Herstmonceux.
When we played 'Ceux at home, we lost 2 goals in quick succession in the first half. Although we came back strongly and scored in the second half, we couldn't quite pull off the comeback. Now that we're defending more strongly, I don't expect to give our opponents a 2-goal start and I'm looking forward to taking the lead in this game.
A win this week sets a good Foundation for the Easter week in which we play 3 home games in 8 days, starting with Cinque Ports on Saturday 3rd April, shortly followed by Ninfield on Easter Monday (5th), before entertaining Northiam on Saturday 10th.
It's not too much to dream that 9 points from these games will be the start of an amazing escape from the basement of Division 2. What a thrill ride that will be!!!

Meet at Church for 1:15pm or at E'Bne Sports Park fpr 2pm. Please let me know if going straight there.
Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Ben Garlick, Tom Holdaway, Andy Oliver.

Our season has four games left and my target is four wins. That's definately do-able if we play as well as we did against Wadhurst. This week we need to keep the ball better, get it wider earlier and score some goals!!
Changes this week sees us back to a 4-4-2 formation with Jamie Relf in defence and Ian Rafati back from Uni giving us pace and attacking options down the right. Stuart Batchelor is rested for the half marathon on Saturday. If all goes to plan, the three subs will all get an extended run out.
Every squad I've named this season has seen changes from the previous week, mainly forced changes due to first team call up's, unavailability or injury. As a second team we must expect that. Our role in part is to 'feed' the first team to enable them to put out the strongest possible squad. I've decided that for our last three games there will be some 'unforced' changes, trying different formations and players in different positions. This may mean that some 'regulars' may have to drop out for a week - watch this space.
Saturdays squad sees in essence the same side that competed so well against Wadhurst and I'm looking for the same energetic performance to secure us three points and get us back up to fourth in the league.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN.

It's not often that you can look forward to a cup semi-final at the end of the week. It kind of stirs your blood and feeds your pulse. So just look at the team I've picked! It's full of fit, strong and talented sportsmen who have a one-off chance to make it to a Cup Final on Monday 12th April.
Although our opponents are obvious favourites, we start on a level playing field and everyone knows that cup matches (especially semi-finals) are no respecters of form. We've got to this stage of the competition on merit and now we're here, anything can happen.
A Christian in these is always encouraged by the lives of David, Daniel, Joseph, Nehemiah and the like. Sure, none of them played football (or if they did, it's not in the Bible), but each of them found incredible strength and courage through thier faith, and each came through with impressive victories. (I especially like the account of David - don't be too surprised if I suddenly call our opponents Eastbourne Goliaths).
Everyone in East Sussex local football must be looking at this game and thinking the same thing - how can a team who hasn't won a game in the League all season beat a team that has only lost once? Those that really know football will remember Sunderland v Leeds and Wimbledon v Liverpool. Inside BBFC, we know that the players in this squad are easily capable of causing a cup upset on a Biblical scale. I do relish playing the role of underdog this Saturday knowing that every dog has its day.
Look once more at the team. Start to believe that Saturday is our day.

Peasmarsh & Iden v BBFC I AWAY***3.00pm KO***

Sat 13th Mar 2010 1st TEAM

Team to play PEASMARSH & IDEN - Div 2 ESFL

1.Gary Walsh

2.Doug Cox, 4.Max Sztyber, 5.Nic Gooch, 3.Rob Jordan

6.Timm Smith, 11.Adam Gooch, 7.Andy Mills(c), 8.Adam Johnson,

9.Tim Walsh, 10.Ariel Cano

Subs: 12.Jamie Relph, 13.Andy Oliver 14.Lee Costen, 15. 16.

Meet at Church for 1:15pm. ***NOTE THE 3pm Kick Off Time***
Let me know if you are going straight to Peasmarsh. We don't want to be waiting at church for you. It's a 45 minute journey...other side of Rye.
Unavailable: Dave Mills, Pete Cooper Andy Poulter, Alan Cowley, Matt Lee.
P&I are always an interesting side to play against. They are a 2nd team and so they always have some great players who are looking to play in the 1sts.
Sitting in the top 3 of Division 2 they are clearly having a good season and are in the mix for promotion.
I've tried to keep an unchanged 11 this week. The one forced change from the side that triumphed last week in the cup sees Timm Smith coming in for Pete Cooper who's unavailable.
One improvement I want to see from last week is that we must start better. Losing a goal in the first 5 minutes put us on the back foot from the start and though we showed impressive character in the way we came back, we'd prefer not to be in that situation. A better warm up and mental preparation - but isn't it great to approach a game with a win behind us.

BBFC II v Catsfield II HOME ***3.00pm KO***

Sat 13th Mar 2010 2nd TEAM

Team to play Wadhurst Utd II - Div 6

1.Tim Nunn

2.Owen Davies, 4.Paul Ford, 5.Paul Rook.

6.Nat Nunn, 7.Stuart Batchelor, 8.Tom Holdaway, 11.Jamie Crouch, 3.Dave Sitch.

9.Joe O'Neil, 10.Rob Usherwood

Subs: 12.Eric Chapman, 13. 14.Jake Wilkinson, 15.Brian Fitzgerald.

Meet at Claverham for 2:00pm. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Ben Garlick, Seb Elliott, Pete Young.
After last weeks good performance, we entertain the unbeaten league leaders, Wadhurst Utd.
Cast your minds back to the away fixture last October. We lost the game 2-1 having lead 1-0 at half time. I recall that perhaps in the second half of that game Wadhurst had more belief in their ability to get the win. We also gave away a sloppy second goal through not marking tight at a corner.
The message for Saturday therefore is that we need a strong defensive performance, coupled with determination and belief that we are a very strong squad and can compete with the very best teams in this division.
Only one change this week as Rob Usherwood claims his striking role back over the unfortunate Jake Wilkinson. Selection remains a challenge. I had four strikers to choose from this week, but a shortage of defenders. Those in the starting line up have a responsibility to give your absolute best for the team.
We have 5 league games left and a realistic target is to finish third in this division. That process starts on Saturday.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

Unavailable: Dave Mills, Lee Costen, Andy Poulter, Alan Cowley, Matt Lee.
It's been a week when there seems to be bad news around every corner and yet I've been strangely positive and optimistic. On the face of it the BBFC 1st team are going through the mill, with poor results and unavailability. Yet when you look at the team, it's full of strong players.
Hastings Rangers will be fancying their chances of reaching the semi-final but they would be unwise to take it for granted. i had already decided to make some changes to the team following the defeat at Nortthiam but I hadn't counted on the forced changes that I've had to make. It feels very much to me like a new era and a new team and in my experience, teams find great strength in adversity.
So, I look forward to Saturday, not only because it's been ages since I've played on a Saturday, not only because I'm looking forward to seeing how the new team of players gel together, but also because we are in a cup quarte final and have every chance of progressing to a semi.

Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Brian Fitzgerald, Ben Garlick, Seb Elliott, Jon King, Rob Usherwood, Pete Young.
Having missed the last three weeks through holiday and then bad weather, I'm really looking forward to Saturday and the opportunity to pit ourselves against our neighbours from Catsfield.
We let ourselves down in the second half of the away fixture so need to make sure we turn up for 90 minutes. I'm sure Catsfield will put out another strong squad. We need to make sure we are organised and able to deal with the threat.
It's another changed line up, with some players on first team duty and others injured. However, its a very strong squad in all areas of the pitch and I have no doubt that we can get a positive result. We need a strong physical performance on Saturday, full of energy, character and self belief....something you are all capable of.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

2PM KO.
Unavailable:Rhys Bennett, Rob Jordan, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh.
This is the 3rd attempt to play this fixture. The first one lasted 10 mins before the heavens opened and the match was abandoned in typhoon weather. The 2nd was called off before we arrived.
Northiam are at the lower end of the Division and like us are looking for points to get out of the relegation zone. They are always a fighting, physical side and they have some big players. So we must be on our mettle and compete equally.
Andy's in charge again with Andy Garlick running the line. The cup of tea at the end of the match is always a highlight at Northiam but it tastes so much better when you win.
No fixture on the 27th. Make this one last.

Nets Up...Andy Poulter, Andy Oliver, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch Nets Down, corner flags and pegs put back into changing room 2...Rhys Bennett, Rob Jordan, Lee Costen, Alan Cowley Litter cleared from side of pitch...Matt Lee Kit sorted into sacks and put into kit bag... Andy Mills Pavilion swept through and litter cleared up... Max Sztyber, Adam Johnson, Ariel Cano, Timm Smith.

We're determined to play this game if at all possible so make sure you bring your winter linament!!!
Andy Poulter is in charge and he'll inspect the pitch Saturday am. Andy Garlick is also around to help out and run the line.
It's a strong squad and I've left instructions with Andy about the team to start and how we should approach this match. But since Battle is once again under a 6inch blanket of snow, it's sensible to hold the starting lineup until Saturday. Poor Andy has a million calls to make if the game is called off - I know you'll give him all the support you can whilst I'm away.
Our approach is simple to call though. We played great against Old Town Athletic 2 weeks ago and created lots of chances... Same again without letting any in. We need to be stronger in defence and eliminate mistakes that lead to conceded goals. Complete commitment and concentration throughout. If we can get the game played, I've a strong feeling that this is a win day!
I've been massively encouraged this week by the Church membership who gave the Football Club a big vote of thanks and support at the Church Meeting on Wednesday night. We have the go-ahead to explore Youth Football a bit more with a plan to start a team in September. Exciting times .. thanks to everyone involved in Battle Baptist FC!!!
The squad is also up for next week's trip to Northiam. Keep Andy in the know if anything happens.

Football's a 'funny old game' and for me that has been well demonstrated over the last 7 days. I know there will be disbelievers when I say that we were unfortunate to lose last weekend. The 5-1 scoreline suggests a stuffing but belies the truth - it was an evenly fought game. We played competitively and created more than half a dozen clear chances. There's so much in our performance that keeps me optimistic and confident.
I was really encouraged by players who transfered what has been coached and put it into practice on the pitch. Our development is clear and gives me great encouragement.
Wednesday's training session was one of the best ever. Players listened and worked hard to receive and pass the ball accurately and keep possession. They used the available space effectively and the quality of play improved enormously. I urge more 1st team players to attend training.
To me, last weeks's injustice at Old Town is further evidence that God has a plan for our 1st team and on Sunday I was given this message from Isaiah 43 that I beleive speaks to the football team...'Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland'.
We must persevere and continue to work hard. Our performances will bloom and when we come out of these hard times, we will be better and stronger.
On Saturday we can be confident and positive. If we perform similar to last week and defend just a tadge better, this cup win will be a great platform to the second half of the season.

Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Owen Davies, Seb Elliott, Jon King, Joe O'Neil, Tim Nunn, Rob Jordan.
Pitch inspection Sat am to check the pitch has recovered from last week.
Not a week goes by without changes to the team. On the one hand I'm pleased to be able to put out another strong team despite the abscence of some 'regulars'. My goal before the season is over will be to name the same starting line up 2 weeks on the bounce!!
Jake's and Andy O's patience and loyalty pays off with a well earned start up front. Eric and Fordy fill the wide midfield slots, Paul Rook drops into central defence - a role we know he can do well, and the versatile Dave Sitch covers in goal. Rob Usherwood and Nat Nunn give me good attacking options on the bench.
With cup business on the back burner this week, three points are our priority. We take the confidence gained from last weeks solid performance, add to that the good work from mid-week training and we will produce a winning performance.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

With the weather improving all the time, the 2nd half of our season will almost certainly KO with this cup quarter final against Eastborne Rangers.
Rangers are an unknown quantity to us. We have to concentrate on our own game come Saturday and remember the positive performance from our last outing against Guestling (top of div 5). If we are all on top form, I know this is a game we can get a positive result from and move on to a semi-final tie. We welcome back Rhys Bennett into midfield and Joe O'Neil upfront.
Please be on time as there will be a lot to organize so that we are in the right frame of mind to win this game.

1.Andy Poulter

Meet at Zion Chapel by 12:20pm...Don't be late - let me know if you're going straight to Old Town Rec for 1pm!!!
2PM KO.
Unavailable: Adam Johnson, Ollie, (Dave).

Old Town Rec was one of the few venues that was playable last weekend so it's certain that the 2nd half of our season will start this weekend. The absence of Dave (injury) and Adam (holiday) has caused me to adjust the selection and gives opportunities for the long-missed Paul Rook and also Tim Smith who scored a great goal for us the last time he came on as substitute.
Neutrals will look at the league table and think this is an obvious home win. But we know we've got the amunition to hurt the Division 2 leaders and, having already taken points off Old Town, I fancy our chances as total underdogs
Old Town were very complimentary when we drew 1-1 with them in November thanks to a goal from Ariel. They're unlikely to underestimate our abilities again and I expect we'll need to work our socks off and compete strongly. So come with a fighting spirit and remember, these are the games that have an extra zest when you win.
By the way, if you want to order a BBFC shirt and/or Training Top, remember to bring your order and money 'cos this is the last weekend before the order goes in.

6.Timm Smith, 7.Stuart Batchelor, 8.Tom Holdaway, 11.Jamie Crouch

9.Toby Blackman, 10.Rob Usherwood

Subs: 12.Joe O'Neil, 13. 14.Erik Chapman, 15.Paul Ford, 16. Nat Nunn.

Meet at Claverham for 1:00pm. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Seb Elliott, Jon King.
Difficult decisions to be made this week as I have a squad of 18 players to choose from. Those that aren't in the squad, rest assured.....you are still in my thoughts and further opportunities will come. If you want to come along to support the team. we'd love to see you.
Those that are in the starting line up or on the bench have a responsibility to give of their very best on Saturday. Back in October, a very poor second half showing presented Catsfield with all 3 points.
If we are all on top form come Saturday, I know this is a game we can get a positive result from. The last time we were together was 12th December, so please be on time as there will be a lot to organize so that we are in the right frame of mind to win this game.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

BBFC I v Hurst HOME ***2pm KO***:

Sat 23rd January 2010 1st TEAM

Team to play HURST - ESFL Div 2

Rhys Bennett, Ariel Cano, Pete Cooper, Alan Cowley, Lee Costen, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch, Adam Johnson, Matt Lee, Andy Mills, Andy Poulter, Max Sztyber, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh

Meet at Battle Rec by 12:30pm for nets up otherwise by 1pm latest...Don't be late - let me know if you're running late.
2PM KO.
Unavailable:Dave Mills.
Strange that now the snow has cleared we may well start against the team that we last played at the end of November.
It's a great chance to start the New Year's campaign with a bang. We were extremely unlucky to have the winning goal disallowed at Eastbourne so we know that we have a team that can beat Hurst.
Having said this, time distorts the memory and we need to remind ourselves of the lessons learned earlier in the season so that they don't come back to haunt us.
I haven't finalised the team yet because I'm still pondering over the starting lineup. So it's just a squad for now. But all subs will have a good proportion of the game.
Get minds and bodies ready for a tough game, played on a very sodden pitch. Football is a brilliant priviledge so bring on Saturday and let's have a superb day.
Match Day Duties...to be shared just to speed things along and ensure that no one person has to do it all. Nets Up...Andy Poulter, Tim Walsh, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch Nets Down, corner flags and pegs put back into changing room 2...Rhys Bennett, Andy Mills, Lee Costen, Alan Cowley Litter cleared from side of pitch...Matt Lee Kit sorted into sacks and put into kit bag... Pete Cooper Pavilion swept through and litter cleared up... Max Sztyber, Adam Johnson, Ariel Cano, Gary Walsh.

Even if the game gets called off, we're arranging to play 5-a-side at Claverham between 1 and 3. Let me know immediately if you want to be involved because we will be tightly organised with teams for each session.

Meet at Claverham by 1:00pm...Don't be late!!
2:00PM KO.
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Andy Oliver.

See Walshy's comments for chances of us playing on Saturday!!.
With a couple of players still to confirm availability, I've posted a squad of 17 players, with two (possibly three) more unavailable . That gives me flexibility if one or two do drop out, but difficulties if by some miracle the game does go ahead.
Numbers continue to be both a blessing and a difficulty. The message from now till the end of the season is clear - grab the opportunity to play with absolute and total commitment and make it so, so difficult for me to leave you out.
Can't wait for it to stop snowing!!

1:30PM KO.
Unavailable: Pete Cooper, Ollie Jeffs, Adam Staplehurst.

If you believe the weather forcast, there is absolutely no chance that we'll be playing football this weekend but we had better plan for the miracle.
This is the game we've been waiting for. We let ourselves down the last time we visited hastings rangers, conceding a clutch of goals in the first half before drawing level only to lose it with the last kick of the match. But our form before Xmas was much better and we can be confident of reproducing a match-winning performance if we continue that form.
Players need to get their mind on their likely playing position and make sure that they are mentally up for this cup match that could take us to the semi-final stage.
Can't wait to be back in action.

Another important cup quarter final this week and one where we can build on the good performance from last week.
We welcome Tim Nunn back in goal, Batchelor back in midfield and the effervescent Fordy back in defence.
The squad has shown on many occaisions that we are good enough to compete with and beat the better teams around us. The task now is to convert those good performances into wins rather than narrow losses. With a strong starting line up and a very strong bench, I'm looking for a semi-final tie in the New Year.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

Meet at Zion Chapel by 12:20pm...Don't be late - let me know if you're going straight to Northiam for 1pm!!!
2PM KO.
Unavailable: Max, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch.

Barring a huge dump of snow at the end of the week, we should be back in action this weekend. Northiam tend to use their pitch in most kinds of weather.
We didn't learn a great deal in the 10 minutes of play before the last game was abandoned in torrential rain, but one thing we did learn is that Northiam are a big side both in attack and defence. We must compete physically with them if we are to come out on top. This challenge normally brings the best out of us.
I'm certain the significance of the game has escaped anyone - this is a bottom of the table clash and afterwards we'll be half way through our fixtures. There's been a lot of courageous talk recently about our ability to stay in Division 2 and we need to transfer that confidence and courage onto the pitch now.
We have had 2 great performances against Old Town Athletic and Hurst but neither has produced a win. I'm expecting that we will raise our game to the same level on Saturday and celebrate our 1st league win of the season.
See you all on Saturday.

Unavailable: Stuart Batchelor, Erik Chapman, Doug Cox, Owen Davies, Seb Elliott, Paul Ford, Tim Nunn, Andy Oliver.
The key position to fill this week is goalkeeper. With both Tim Nunn and Jon King unavailable, I need to find a willing volunteer. If the 1st team game is off, we may have someone to step into the breach.
In addition the missing Doug Cox (working) and Stuart Batchelor (injured toe) means the team looks different again. I may make further changes depending on the weather and the critical goalie's position. .
There are 3 possible venues to play this game - Bulverhythe; Guestling or Claverham. We'll try hard to get the game on so please prepare well and get your minds focussed on a win and a semi-final place!! Will try and organise 5-a-side agin if the game is off.

Ollie Jeffs Pavilion swept through and litter cleared up... Pete Cooper, Adam Johnson, Ariel Cano, Dave Mills.

The weather has cheered up but the rec is still in a state. It's been advised that we don't play on it in it's present condition. This being the case, the fixture may well be switched if the opponent's pitch is available...Cinque Ports usually play down at Bulverhythe...watch this space!
Max and Gary are not available but it's still a strong team with plenty of talent waiting on the sideline. There's been a lot of big talk over the last week and that needs to be transferred to the pitch now. Games are starting to run out and we must collect points if we are to avoid the drop this season.
It's down to someone else to organise the 5-a-side this weekend if the game is off. Please co-ordinate with Gary Wenham if you want to get something organised.

Two changes this week. Jamie's with the 1st team and Stuart is back in midfield. Tim's injured thumb gives Jon King another go in goal. A 4 man bench gives me options, but does mean that someone will not get a game.
As Gary Walsh said in his 1st team notes, please prepare as if the game is on. We lost narrowly away to this top of the table side back in October. Play well and we can definately get a positive result on Saturday.
There is an opportunity for 5-a-side if the rain keeps falling. Let me know if interested.

2PM KO.
Unavailable: Matt Lee, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch.
.
I'm gutted that I can't keep the same team that competeed so well last week at Hurst but the Gooch boys are away and Matt Lee is unavailable too.
However, it does gives others a chance to get on the scene so the good news is that Pete, Lee and Jamie all get a start. Gary is still recovering from his 60 minute outing on Saturday and won't be fit to play this week. Thankfully Ariel is on hand to come back and fill his boots!
The Sports Centre in Battle is booked in the afternoon just in case it's called off. TEXT ME NOW IF YOU WANT TO PLAY INDOORS so that I can sort it out for you. I'll text you and put a message on the website the moment I hear any news so until then, EXPECT THE GAME TO BE ON.
Whatever happens, we WILL play football on Saturday and we WILL go out in the evening starting at the Senlac and making our way to the curry house in Battle for 8pm. I've booked the tables so if you haven't already told me that you're eating, you'd better get on the phone to me straight away.
This week we heard from the English FA that we've been successful in our application for Charter Standard Status. We're setting up a presentation for training next Wednesday when a representative from Sussex FA will come to present the Award to us. If you don't usually come training, why not make a special effort to come.
See you all on Saturday.

Meet at the Zion Chapel on Mount Street (Battle) at 12:30pm prompt, OR at Barley Lane, Hastings for 1:00pm. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Stuart Batchelor, Seb Elliott.
Two changes this week. Stuart Batchelor has not recovered from his injured back so Doug Cox comes into defence. Rob Jordan is back to add some steel to the midfield.
Training on Wednesday was characterised by players making purposeful passes to feet, demanding the ball when in space and making simple decisive choices when they got it back. Thats what I'm looking for on Saturday. We need to concentrate for 90 minutes, and to play with confidence and a real sense of purpose.
Even though more rain is on the way, please don't assume the worst. From experience, the Barley Lane pitch does drain well so there is a good chance the game will be on.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

Subs: 12.Lee Costen, 13.Tim Walsh, 14.Rhys Bennett, 15.Pete Cooper, 16.

Meet at Zion Chapel by 12:20pm...Don't be late - let me know if you're going straight to Old Town Rec, Eastbourne for 1pm!!!
NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE...WE ARE PLAYING AT OLD TOWN REC - 2PM KO.
Unavailable: Ariel Cano.

Team: The Mills twins get their places back in the team after being unavailable last week and Pete is also in the squad after a long absence. In Ariel's absence, Gary passed a fitness test today and becomes Alan's strike partner. Four subs on the bench gives all the flexibility to cover every scenario, though it does mean that someone won't play, a situation I don't like to have.
The game has been switched away from a waterlogged Sports Park to Old Town Rec which hardly ever gets called off - there's every chance we'll play.
Warning: there won't be much of a team talk on Saturday – every player will be expected to reflect on last weekend's disappointment and build themselves up accordingly. I'm expecting a big reaction.
With only 1 point from 8 games and only 12 still to play, we have to accept that we are relegation material...but we must keep fighting.
I'm still optimistic that we can win any game in Division 2. Look at the players we have. But we've learned that we must have a strong and competitive attitude and only then will our talents shine.
Scripture teaches us that in our lives we'll have good times and bad times and that when we are down, we must be resilient and continue to work together, knowing that our God will favour and reward us in His own time... so let's not be downcast...instead be joyful! Forget the disappointment of last week - it's gone. This Saturday we'll take to the field again with a clean sheet and another privileged opportunity to play the game we love... Can't wait!!!

BBFC II v PARKFIELD HOME 2.00pm KO

Sat 21st Nov 2009 2nd TEAM

Team to play Parkfield - Div 6

1.Tim Nunn

2.Erik Chapman, 4.Ben Garlick(c), 5.Stuart Batchelor, 3.Paul Ford,

6.Paul Rook, 7.Jamie Crouch, 8.Tom Holdaway, 11.Dave Sitch

9.Toby Blackman, 10.Joe O'Neil

Subs: 12.Andy Oliver, 13. 14.Rob Usherwood, 15.Gary Wenham.

Meet at the Claverham for 1:00pm prompt. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Doug Cox, Rob Jordan.
I had hoped to start with the same line up as last weeks abandoned fixture. However, a number of withdrawls means that's not possible.
Tim Nunn is back in goal and Dave Sitch resumes in midfield in place of Rob Jordan. Stuart Batchelor drops back to centre-half as cover for Doug Cox. Lee Costen is back with the 1st team and Paul Rook earns a start in midfield. Jamie Crouch resumes his central midfield partnership with Tom and Timm Smith provides cover for the 1st team.
Its a strong squad with a strong bench and presents very real opportunities for players to make their mark and make my selection job even more difficult. Rob Usherwood and Andy Oliver on the bench will be itching for a chance to show what they can do.
The weather may play it's part this week-end and a pitch inspection is planned early Saturday morning. Keep an eye on the website.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

BBFC I v Herstmonceux HOME 2pm KO:

Sat 21st November 2009 1st TEAM

Squad To play HERSTMONCEUX - Division 2

1.Andy Poulter

2.Lee Costen, 4.Max Sztyber, 5.Nic Gooch, 3.Adam Johnson,

7.Olie Jeffs (C), 11.Adam Gooch, 6.Matt Lee, 8.Rhys Bennett

9.Alan Cowley, 10.Ariel Cano,

Subs: 12.Timm Smith, 13.Tim Walsh, 14.Gary Walsh, 15. 16.

Meet at Battle Rec at 1pm prompt...12:30pm for nets up.

Unavailable: Andy Mills, Dave Mills, Pete Cooper, Adam Staplehurst
Match Day Duties...to be shared just to speed things along and ensure that no one person has to do it all. Nets Up...Andy Poulter, Tim Walsh, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch
Nets Down, corner flags and pegs put back into changing room 2...Max Stzyber, Jamie Crouch, Lee Costen, Alan Cowley
Litter cleared from side of pitch...Matt Lee
Kit sorted and put into kit bag... Ollie Jeffs
Pavilion swept through and litter cleared up... Rhys Bennett, Adam Johnson, Ariel Cano.

The spectacular weather was something else last week. I've never seen so much rain fall in such a short time. Within 10 minutes the pitch resembled a swimming pool and the driving rain was coming in at 45 degrees.
Although wonderful to experience, the abandonment was a pain in the neck for us because we were denied our chance to progress up the table. This week we get another chance when we face second bottom side Herstmonceux.
'Ceux are always a tough physical team but we've got used to that in Division 2 now. The pitch conditions will be very heavy making passing even harder. This will have a big impact on the way we approach our football this weekend.
Although Ollie is back to full fitness, Max and Nic will stay at the heart of the defence, enabling me to use Ollie in a different capacity on the right. Adam G is a superb replacement for Andy in central midfield and we know Lee will do a great job at right back. With the ACs up front, you can see that it’s a strong team again. I need strength on the bench too so I've brought Jamie back to the team to join Tim and me as subs. Pray that we can keep a high tempo and that the weather allows the game to go on…I'll send a message to mobiles as soon as I have anything to report. Until then, assume the game is on and keep it in your mind that everything is possible through Him that gives us strength.

2.Lee Costen, 4.Ben Garlick(c), 5.Doug Cox, 3.Paul Ford,

6.Erik Chapman, 7.Stuart Batchelor, 8.Jamie Crouch, 11.Rob Jordan

9.Toby Blackman, 10.Joe O'Neil

Subs: 12.Paul Rook, 13. 14.Rob Usherwood, 15.Andy Oliver.

Meet at the Zion Chapel on Mount Street (Battle) at 12:10pm prompt, OR at Bulberhythe (Tip End) for 12.30pm. PLEASE DON'T BE LATE. WE NEED TIME TO PREPARE WELL.
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Seb Elliott, Rob Holdaway, Jon King, Tim Nunn, Timm Smith.
With Max playing well and keeping his 1st team place, we welcome back Doug Cox into the heart of defence. The other change sees Lee Costen in at right back.
This cup quarter final sees us travel to Guestling's temporary home at the Bulverhythe. Three more wins in this competition and we'll be the proud owners of some silverware!!
Whilst Guestling have the upper hand in recent encounters, this is definately a game we can win....we all need to believe that - not just me!! Our sqaud is strong and getting stronger. Rob Usherwood, back to the club from his "loan spell" at Crowhurst gives us exciting attacking options on the bench alongside Andy Oliver. Paul Rook gives us a flexible 'utility' option as the other sub. It's worth noting that the 2nd team squad if everyone was fit and available numbers 20 players. You are playing for your place every week, and I'm looking for a performance that tells me you understand that. This week is all about discipline and hard work. Discipline is needed to make sure you do your job right and do the simple things well. Hard work is needed to make sure we keep going when things aren't going our way.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

BBFC I v Northiam AWAY ***2pm KO***:

Team to play NORTHIAM 75 - Division 2

11.Adam Gooch, 7.Andy Mills(c), 6.Matt Lee, 8.Rhys Bennett,

9.Alan Cowley, 10.Ariel Cano

Subs: 12.Ollie Jeffs, 13.Tim Walsh, 14.Gary Walsh, 15.Adam Staplehurst, 16.

Meet at Zion Chapel by 12:30pm...Don't be late - let me know if you're going straight to Noerthiam for 1pm!!!

Unavailable: Pete Cooper.

Team: Dave Mills returns at right back for the unfortunate Lee Costen who starts for the 2nds. Otherwise it's the same starting 11 that played so well against Old Town Athletic last week. After his impressive performance, Max Sztyber's keeps the spot alongside Nic Gooch in defence dispite the availability this week of Doug Cox and Ollie Jeffs. It's great to have Adam Staplehurst back this weekend to support us on the bench.
Last Saturday we almost pulled off a win against top-of-the-table Old Town. Even a draw felt like victory and gave us our first point to start the season. It's a different test this week as we travel to Northiam, who are down at the bottom. I see this as a much bigger game than the last two. Northiam always make it difficult and will be fighting hard to keep us down at the bottom.
But we've seen massive improvement in the last 2 weeks, especially in the way we battle and compete, unsettling our opponents. I feel that we're on a roll now and the momentum of the last 2 results will take us to another great performance. Matt Lee set a sterling example last week and Andy Poulter was back to his bast, illustrating the old addage that 'form is temporary but class is permanent'.
A win lifts us off the bottom of Division 2 and will further boost our confidence. Remember, 'everything is possible through Him that gives you strength'.
Take a look at the League table and you'll see that every game we've played so far has been against top half opposition. I've said this season that we have the best set of players that we've seen at BBFC and that we've played better football than ever before. Saturday's game can't come too soon...bring it on.

BBFC I v Old Town Athletic HOME ***2pm KO***:

Team to play OLD TOWN ATHLETIC - Division 2

1.Andy Poulter

11.Adam Gooch, 7.Andy Mills(c), 6.Matt Lee, 8.Rhys Bennett,

9.Alan Cowley, 10.Ariel Cano

Subs: 12.Lee Costen, 13.Tim Walsh, 14.Gary Walsh, 15.16.

Meet at Battle Rec by 1pm. Nets up at 12:30pm. 2pm KICK OFF!!!

Unavailable:Ollie Jeffs, Pete Cooper.
Match Day Duties...there are a few jobs that need doing at home games and to prevent being left with it all myself I'm allocating a job for each player to do when they arrive or before they leave. Hope you don't object to helping out in a small way.
Nets Up...Andy Poulter, Tim Walsh, Adam Gooch, Nic Gooch
Nets Down, corner flags and pegs put back into changing room 2...Max Stzyber, Adam Johnson, Rhys Bennett, Alan Cowley
Litter cleared from side of pitch...Matt Lee
Kit sorted and put into kit bag...Andy Mills
Pavilion swept through and litter cleared up...Rhys Bennett, Ariel Cano, Dave Mills.

With the absence of Doug Cox and Pete Cooper, I'm forced into making changes to the winning team. Max Stzyber, a regular in the 1sts last year, makes his first appearance at centre back, whilst Rhys Bennett gets Pete's spot on the left and Lee Costen takes the number 12 shirt.
Last week my prayers were answered with a much stronger performance against Battle Rangers. We played more competitively and controlled the tempo of the game, creating lots of chances. I thought we were better value than the 1-0 scoreline reflects - better finishing would have made the result much safer.
We'll need all that fighting spirit again this week as we entertain Division 2 leaders Old Town Athletic. This is a real David and Goliath game. The Bible is full of examples where the valiant underdog wins through and once again I remind everyone that 'everything is possible through Him that gives you strength'.
Now that we've tasted victory, we know what we're working for - that 3:45pm feeling of joyous ecstacy. Let's taste it again and get some points on the board.

More changes this week. Dave Sitch has very kindly volunteered to fill the goalkeeping vacancy....as a one off!!!. Rob Jordan steps in at centre back and Jamie Crouch is back in midfield.
League points are vital this week....complacency is not an option. We need to build on our cup success and start collecting points that will see us climb up the table.
Despite a few abscences this week the squad remains strong. I'm looking for a fully committed performance this week from players who want to win and who understand how important it is to play well consistently to maintain your place in the team. No one can take their place for granted.
As always, please prepare well and come along ready to work hard and WIN!

We find ourselves in a similar position to the 1st team this week, having played poorly last week and up against lower division opposition in the cup this week. We need to bounce back strongly.
Hampden Park are a new side to the ESFL and are in a comfortable mid-table position. They will definately be "up for it" in this cup match, and we must make sure we are too.
Three changes this week. Jon King in goal, Stu back in midfield for Rob Jordan, and Lee Costen in at right back for the unfortunate Erik Chapman. At training on Wednesday I spoke about the need to play with a stronger physical presence and to show more grit and determination. Gary Wa has said much the same in his 1st team notes.
On Saturday I'm looking for an attitude that tells me you are proud to play for this team, that you are prepared to give everything physically to achieve our team goals and that you want to win!!. Lets get our season back on track.

My prayers for the team this week have been dominated by a single thought, and here it is... I know that our behaviour and attitude honours God, but there is also a way that we can be physically stronger and more competitive in our play without losing our spirit of sportsmanship.
Prior to last Saturday it could be argued that we hadn't enjoyed the rub of the green and that although we'd lost games, we'd had encouraging spells of good play. On Saturday however, we looked short of courage and less willing to battle.
Anyone thinking this Saturday's game against Battle Rangers from Division 3 will be any less physical or competitive doesn't understand the situation. After a strong start, Rangers have only won one of their last 4 games and, like us will want to return to winning ways. The prospect of overturning a team from a higher division will be a powerful motivator. Battle derby games pay no respect to form. They tend to be gritty, scrappy affairs - not for the meek hearted. For us, defeat in our last remaining cup competition resticts us to League fixtures.
I've said for a few weeks now that we are close to our first result of the season. Last week we took a step in the wrong direction. Now I'm expecting a big reaction from us. A win on Saturday will require a much tougher, stronger, mental and physical performance.
I'll remind you of Philippians 4:13 that says 'I can do everything through Him that gives me strength'. So come on - let's do it!!!

As we travel to our friends at Catsfield, we will be looking to continue last weeks good form. Cup wins are good for confidence, but we need league points on the board.
Catsfield have had a similar start to ourselves, with some good wins and some close defeats against the top teams in the division. We will need to be at our best for 90 minutes to get a positive result.
With Stuart B and Jamie C unavailable, Dave Sitch and Rob Jordan are promoted from last weeks bench. The team looks strong in all areas.
Please be on time so that we can prepare properly for this important game.
As always, come along prepared to work hard individually and as a team, and come prepared to win.

Unavailable:Ollie Jeffs, Adam Gooch, Nick Gooch, Jamie Crouch, Adam Staplehurst, Ian Rafati.
Once again the team looks strong, and if we play with the same competitive spirit that we showed last weekend, this game will give us the points to ignite our campaign. Unfortunately with Ollie still sidelined (knee) and Nic unavailable this week, I have no choice but to pick Alan to play alongside Doug. I've been out of contact all day today and I need to know Gary Wenham's plans before naming a third sub.
On the point of FIRST AID, I went to treat an injury during last Saturday's game only to find that someone had taken the cold spray out of the 1st Aid Kit. Does anyone know what where it is or whether we need more? These recurring incidences of thoughtless selfishness are beginning to irritate my normally tolerant demenour.

Only one change to the side that competed so well against Wadhurst last week. Max comes in for Doug Cox who earns a well deserved promotion to the 1st team....we wish him well. New signing Rob Jordan earns a place on the bench - please make him welcome.
This is a good opportunity to get beck to winning ways and maybe the start of a cup run. I'm sure Westfield will have improved since we last played them and we cannot afford to be complacent.
Continued improvement is needed this week. If we defend solidly, keep the ball well in all areas of the pitch and link effectively with the front two, we will be successfull.
Please be on time so that we can prepare properly for this important game.
As always, come along prepared to work hard individually and as a team, and come prepared to win.

Meet at the Zion Chapel on Mount Street (Battle) at 1:30pm prompt, OR at Wadhurst(Washwell Lane) fpr 2pm. DON'T BE LATE!!
Unavailable: Owen Davies, Seb Elliott, Dave Sitch.
Another very different starting line up this week, with Matt Lee earning a well deserved promotion to the 1st's and Jamie Crouch and Tom Holdaway coming into the side.
I'm settled on the starting line up, but not yet on the starting positions. All will be revealed Saturday.
After last weeks dissapointment, we need to bounce back strongly. We need to keep the ball better. Jamie and Tom will enable us to do that. This will create more chances for the front two and take pressure of the defence.
Wadhurst have continued their good form from last season and are so far unbeaten. They will provide a stiff test. If you take the good periods of play from our opening 5 games, and put them all together, we are a match for any side in this division. The trick is to keep that level of performance going for 90 minutes.
As always, come along prepared to work hard individually and as a team, and come prepared to win.

BBFC I v Peasmarsh and Iden HOME 3pm KO:

Sat 10th October 2009 1st TEAM

Squad To play PEASMARSH AND IDEN Division 2

1.Andy Poulter

2.Dave Mills, 4.Ollie Jeffs(C), 5.Nic Gooch, 3.Lee Costen,

11.Rhys Bennett, 7.Andy Mills, 6.Adam Gooch, 8.Pete Cooper

9.Alan Cowley, 10.Gary Walsh

Subs: 12.Matt Lee, 13.Tim Walsh, 14.Paul Rook, 15. 16.

Meet at Battle Rec at 2pm prompt...1:30pm for nets up.

Ariel is unavailable this week and is replaced up front with a first start of the season for Gary. Otherwise its the same side as last weekend, giving these players a chance to shake off the blues and put right all the gremlins that occurred last Saturday.
However, theres a totally different subs bench this week with 3 players being promoted from the second team to give us their support, and Jamie and Tom moving the opposite way hoping for game time in the seconds. Matt, Tim and Paul have all played for the 1sts before and give us great cover in each department, keeping everyone on their toes. Look out for changes shortly after half time.
Last season started slowly in a very similar way to this season. A home win against Peasmarsh got our season off and running. We need to be determined for a similar outcome on Saturday. We have a great spirit and players will be keen to work hard for the team and make a significant contribution.
Stating the blindingly obvious has always come easy to me. We are playing well in large parts of the game. We just need to concentrate for 90 and avoid those calamitous periods when we are shipping goals. Keep faithful to yourself and your team-mates, offering praise and encouragement that will build them up to give their best.
Be confident and courageous. As Wenham always sayscome prepared to work hard and to win. This is the week!

Meet at Claverham for 2:00pm prompt - DON'T BE LATE!!

Unavailable: Toby Blackman, Doug Cox, Owen Davies, Seb Elliott.
This weeks starting line up looks very different, with 4 players from last week unavailable..
We revert back to a more traditional 4-4-2 line up. Tim Walsh (an ever present sub for the 1st's this season) earns a well deserved start up front alongside Joe. Max and Paul Rook provide pace and strength at the heart of the defence in place of Doug and Owen. The superior fitness of Timm Smith just edges the right midfield slot over Erik Chapman.
We need a huge effort this week to get back to winning ways. I'll be looking for a performance full of pace, hard work, effort, committment and team spirit. This team is a very good side.....lets get out on the pitch and show it, and make sure we're not talking about what might have been after the game.
As always, come along prepared to work hard individually and as a team, and come prepared to win.

Subs: 12.Jamie Crouch, 13.Gary Walsh, 14.Tom Holdaway, 15. 16.

Meet at Battle Rec at 2pm prompt...1:30pm for nets up.
Despite being a cup game this match is still a 3pm KO.

This is our first venture into the Sussex Junior Cup which invites all teams that play Junior level football across the whole of Sussex. Unfortunately weve been drawn at home I was looking forward to an away game in Woking or maybe Crawley.
Our visitors play in the Crawley and District League and like us have 2 teams. Thats everything we know about them and this makes the tie even more exciting.
Although you could easily argue that our season hasnt started well, it was great to see the enthusiasm to get back on the pitch after our shattering defeat last week when we lost with the last kick of the game. Before the game last week someone commented that were getting closer and closer to a win little did we know how much closer we could get without winning.
Whats clear is that were getting better. So Im not making changes to the squad, believing that the players we have will come through if Im patient.
The team is still developing. We will grow through our frailties and get stronger as we learn (Read James). Saturday will be brilliant and I stay confident that hard work and concentration will bring rewardsa trip to Worthing or Crawley is still in my plans.

Only one change this week with Ben Garlick back in for Paul Rook who's suffering with a bad back.
We lost to Hastings Elite last season in the cup, and they have won 2 out of 3 so far this season.....so have we!!. They will be a good test, but we have a very strong side out with a strong bench giving cover all over the pitch. Play to our strengths and this is a game we are very capable of winning.
If you are going straight to Bexhill Road, PLEASE let me know in time. Ben Garlick will organise those meeting at the Church and I don't want him kept waiting.

Meet at the Zion Chapel Car Park at 1:30pm prompt...Call me if you want to go to Bulverhythe directy so we don't wait for you.

Unavailable: Tom Holdaway.
Playing at Bulverhythe plays havoc with your preparation because they don't open the doors until about 2:30pm. So we'll meet there at 2pm and have the team talk outside BEFORE we get changed. Don't be late!
Team News:The squad sees Pete dropping to sub this week and Lee taking up the left flank space. Tom's central midfield spot is taken by Jamie and we welcome Adam Johnson back albeit as a sub, where he joins Adam Staplehurst back from illness.
Last week's performance against Catsfield was very encouraging and we approach this game full of positive optimism. We need the same grit and determination because Rangers are no pushovers. They always give us a closely fought game.
After the game we are planning to come back to Battle and enjoy an evening out together. That night out will be all the better if we get our first win of the season.

I DONT DO LATE!! I DONT EXPECT YOU TO EITHER....IF GOING STRAIGHT THERE, LET ME KNOW EARLY. IF YOU WANT DIRECTIONS, TRY GOOGLE MAPS.

Unselected; Darrell Hartley, Natt Nunn, Mark Townsley, Max Sztyber, Billy Adams, Charlie Noble.
Unavailable: Jon King, Erik Chapman, Ben Garlick.
Two changes to last weeks winning team. Paul Rook and Tim Nunn in for the unavailable Ben Garlick and Jon King.
Polegate are another unknown quantity and we must therefore concentrate only on our game. If we continue our form from last week, we will surely get an important cup win.
Another big squad this week sees me name 4 subs with 6 players not selected at all. A winning team is a difficult team to break up. I'd ask those not in the picture to stay loyal, keep involved and opportunities will come.
As a team, I know there is a lot more improvement to come and that makes me excited about Saturday. As always come along prepared to listen, work hard individually and as a team and to win!

9.Alan Cowley, 10.Ariel Cano

Subs: 12.Jamie Crouch, 13.Adam Johnson, 14.Lee Costen, 15.Ben Scott 16.Ian Nunn

Meet at Battle Rec at 1:30pm prompt...1pm for nets up.

Unselected: Adam Staplehurst, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh.
The realisation that there may be 14 players (at least) that are better than me has been a real frustration to me this week. I really want to play football but there are others that I feel could do a better job at the moment. Still I'm spurred on to get fitter and stronger and I'm hopeful yet of a comeback.
The disappointment I feel must be shared with others this week. Everyone is available and I can't fit them all in. With the 2nd team winning convincingly last week there isn't even an automatic place there for players left out of the 1sts. Naturally Gary Wenham will want to develop a strong team spirit and he'll try to maintain a winning team.
And so it goes - all of us are battling to stay fit and find a place in the team. This week we have a break from the League to host Catsfield in the Hastings Junior Cup - note the earlier 2:30pm Kick Off to allow for extra time and penalties if needed. Determined to brush away last week's soft performance, we have to provide a stiffer backbone and more competitive spirit.
After a great preseason, we haven't really shown the passionate fighting umph that is needed to win games in Division 2 and Saturday's fixture raises the bar still further as we take on Division 1 opposition.
I have great confidence in the football abilities of all the players in my squad. They have all shown themselves to be skillful players. What will make the difference in team selection in the forthcoming weeks is strong character. Last Saturday, Ariel's enthusiasm and determination to do well set a great example for the team and he was rewarded with goals. This week we all must up the level of competitiveness whilst maintaining our attitude of sportsmanship. That's the big challenge. A win is sure to spark off our season.

Bit of a goalkeeping crisis this week with Tim Nunn, Jon King and Mark Townsley all unavailable. I'm working on a surprise replacement, but we may need to re-organise from within the squad.
A couple of outfield changes this week with Owen back in defence and Joe back to partner Toby upfront.
If you are going straight to Bexhill Road, PLEASE let me know in time. Ben Garlick will organise those meeting at the Church and I don't want him kept waiting.
This week is all about improvements to our own game. We know the areas that we need to work on and I'll emphasise these on Saturday. We have a strong squad, and if we play as well as we can, its a winning squad. As always, come along prepared to work hard individually and as a team.

Unavailable: Alan Cowley, Andy Mills, Adam Staplehurst, Gary Walsh, Tim Walsh.
There was much to be entusiastic about last week when we played Sandhurst and I'm expecting that a similar performance will bring better reward this weekend.
The starting line-up has just one change, Pete coming in for Andy who's on holiday. It's great to see a very strong subs bench waiting to jump into action.
Ollie is in charge this weekend - please give him all your support.
If you decide to go straight to Ticehurst, let him know because we don't want to be waiting in Battle for someone.
Ticehurst will have some good players and we need to give them respect. However, it's early in the season and as far as we're concerned, we shouldn't pay too much attention to our opponeents. Just go out, play your best as an individual and as a team, and enjoy your Saturday afternoon's football. I can't wait for the result to come through to me Saturday teatime.

KO 3.00pm. Meet at CLAVERHAM for 2.00pm.

IF YOU'RE NOT AVAILABLE PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY VIA EMAIL garywenham@tiscali.co.uk

THE SQUAD:
Stuart Batchelor; Toby Blackman; Doug Cox; Seb Elliott; Paul Ford; Ben Garlick; Darrell Hartley; Matt Lee; Natt Nunn; Tim Nunn; Andy Oliver; Erik Chapman, Dom Fowler, Dave Sitch, Mark Townsley.

UNAVAILABLE:
Owen Davies; Pat Mammone; Joe O'Neil; Max Sztyber; Jake Wilkinson, Jon King, Timm Smith.

We start our season with a tough opener against HG Aerospace. The new boys from last season developed well and became a well organised strong attacking outfit. We too have a strong line up and this is definately a game we can get a positive result from. I'm still not sure of the starting line up, so I've posted a squad of 15 and will announce the starting team on Saturday. Hopefully, like me, you've been looking forward to the new season, almost since the last one ended. We will have a lot to talk about prior to the warm up, so PLEASE be on time. At last the season is here and we're raring to go!!! It's an exciting moment partly because of the new players in this season's team and partly because we want to get off to a great start with a home win.
Sandhurst are tough opposition, having acquired some personnel from the break up of Hawkhurst's County League side. I expect them to be a different side to the one that we beat 5-2 last April. I'll be looking for mental and physical stregnth.
Pre-season has gone particularly well especially in the goalscoring department. We have shown an appetite for goals that was missing last year.
By the way, don't pay too much head to positions or formation - I'll speak about that on Sat. There's lots of detail to organise so come on time and be prepared to listen well. It's important to know everyone's part in the team and good preparation is the forerunner to success.
Bring on Saturday...come on lads!!!

The weather is forcast to be good and the Rec is in great shape. As you see we have 13 confirmed players so, with interchangeable subs there'll be lots of football for everyone. We know nothing about our opposition except they are a similarly run church-based team like ourselves. It's another opportunity to enjoy ourselves, work hard individually and to form a bond as a team. Enjoy the game.
Usually by Thursday I would be posting my team and subs but because of the total absence of defenders this week, the starting lineup isn't decided - some players will have to play play part of the game in defence...be prepared.

SQUAD FOR NATIONAL CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL FESTIVAL - BRISTOL'09

Squad Numbers Apply:
1.Tim Nunn, 2.Dave Mills, 3.Paul Rook, 4.Ollie Jeffs, 5.Adam Staplehurst, 6.Tim Walsh, 7.Andy Mills, 8.Pete Cooper, 9.Nat Nunn, 10.Tom Frere-Smith, 11.Pat Mammone, 12.Bryn Frere-Smith, 13.Gary Walsh, 14.Owen Davies, 15.Gary Wenham, 16.Steve Chapman, 17.Ian Nunn,

The Squad sets off to bristol this coming Friday afternoon hoping, at the very least to play more football than they did 2 years ago in Manchester.
The competition lasts over 2 days with Battle Baptists drawn in Section A together with 7 other teams. The games are played under 11-a-side rules with each game lasting 30 mins. We play every other team in Section A plus at least one other final match (maybe 2 if we get come 1st or 2nd in Section A) - that's a lot of football.
Please pray that the organisation of the travel, accomodation and festival goes smoothly, that the players don't run out of energy (especially the oldies) and that the squad has a really enjoyable weekend.

We'll start with the formation that gave us success at the end of last season, but the starting lineup isn't important - everyone will get a good chance to play. Rolling subs will give me the chance to juggle positions and formations so you'll need to be alert. You must tell me if there's a particular position you want to play.
