BBFC II XI v White Knight II (Away - Eastbourne Sports Park by the Hospital. 3pm)
Sat 12th May 2007
Team To Play White Knight
1.Tim Nunn
2.Chris Mammone (c), 5.Max Stzyber, 4.Doug Morris, 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Matt Lee, 6.Stuart Batchelor, 8.Dale Scowen, 11.Seb Elliott
9.Dom Fowler, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Steve Mumford, 13.Steve Chapman, 14.Stuart Calderwood, 15.Loksan Harley, 16.?
2pm in Eastbourne. Meet at the church for a leave at 1.30pm to attempt to go over there in convoy.
Apologies for the lateness in putting the team up. I have agonised over selection for a few days now.
The back five stays the same after an impressive performance last week. In midfield, Stuart C and Luke are desperately unlucky to miss out with Dale and Stuart B returning. The front two remain the same.
On the bench Steve Chapman returns from injury and is joined by Stuart C and Loksan. The intention months ago was to put Ian, Richard and myself on the bench with a view to coming on. However our recent successes and the possibility of a top-half finish have led to a rethink. Ian and Richard have generously said they will not be subs, whereas I, in a blatant abuse of my position and power, have decided to include myself with a view to coming on for a few minutes if the situation permits. There were plenty of candidates for the 5th bench spot, however I am reluctant to drag people over to Eastbourne who have little chance of playing. So to Luke, Zac, Jake, Ant and Gordon I am truly sorry you are not included. I do hope you understand and please do come along to support your team if you can.
Make no mistake, this will be a hard game. White knight's first team are in Division 2 and have finished their fixtures so some of their players may well feature tomorrow. This is something we have faced before in Wadhurst and it will be great if we can react the way we did to that. We should go out their with twin intentions, to cement our position at the top of the Sportmanship Table and to finish in the top half of the table. This has been a fantastic start to the life of the 2nd team, lets end the first chapter on a high.

Hastings Rangers v BBFC I (Away) 3PM KO:
Sat 12th May 2007
Team To Play HASTINGS RANGERS
1.Grant Lewis
2.Owen Davies, 4.Alan Cowley, 5.Gary Williams, 3.Paul Ford
11.Dave Mills, 6.Ollie Jeffs, 7.Andy Mills (c), 8.Pete Cooper,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Darrell Hartley, 13.Aaron Dreeling 14. 15.Gary Wenham, 16.
Meet at the Church 1:30pm Prompt. Let ME know if you intend to go straight to Bulverhythe for 2pm...we don't want to be waiting for you unnecessarily as happened last week. We change at the Murco garage end of Bulverhythe.
Apologies for the slight delay in announcing the team - usually I'd have it up by now.
Team News: It's an unchanged starting lineup from the team that beat Eastbourne Dynamos last weekend.
Darrell has recovered from his thigh strain but Paul's superb MotM performance has kept him in the spot.
I've chosen to take Aaron as a sub this week. He's impressed me in training with his skill, speed and determination. I can see Aaron doing very well coming on in an attacking or midfield position and I'm eager to give him a good opportunity to show off his talents.
Our last game of the season pits us against a physical team and I expect nothing less than strong opposition from Rangers with whom we always enjoy a good ding-dong match. Rangers are still in with a chance of sneeking promotion at the last moment as the 3 points would take them past Magham Down into 3rd position giving promotion if their 1st team can beat Athletico to promotion from Division 2...it's not simple.
We ourselves are in a fabulous position where it's possible to finish 4th, but only if Mayfield somehow lose to Wittersham...and this also assumes that we'll be awarded the points from another game when our opposition played an ineligeable player. Win on Saturday and it's more likely we'll finish 5th, which is still fantastically encouraging in a season when we have improved in the latter part.
Two things struck me about last Saturday's second half against Dynamos. Firstly, at half time we identified their left back to be their best defender and yet we continued to play down the right into his path. You'll have noticed how cleverly he collected the ball and simply stroked a pass into the feet of his attackers, putting us in reverse mode again and again. We do need to be more cute in reacting to match situations - Dave worked tirelessly and his head must have been spinning, whilst Pete was underutilised down the left flank where the slowest defender was at right back.
Secondly, when we did get possession, we were too eager to break away and score a goal. On a hot day when you are 1-0 up and under the cosh, it's a good idea to slow the game down, keeping hold of the ball and making your opponents do the chasing. Players can preserve energy by standing on the ball instead of running with it. That way it's your opposite number who has to run hard to close down space. Then you pass it by him.
It's true to say that we didn't play a clever game tactically and that could have lost us a result. I wonder if we can improve on this in Saturday's game which thankfully won't be in such arid conditions.
Our thoughts at the end of the afternoon will turn straight to the 2nds who will jump another 4 places in Division 6 if they get a win against White Knight.
Whatever happens, join us Saturday evening when we'll see out the season with a drink and a curry in Battle...and talk about how we'll be Champions next year. 7:30pm in The Bull...9:30pm eat...Gary Wenham is keeping track of numbers - let him know if you're eating...no need to book a drink though!

BBFC II XI v Hastings Elite (Away - Behill Road Garden Centre/Tip end. 3pm)
Sat 5th May 2007
Team To Play Hastings Elite
1.Tim Nunn
2.Chris Mammone (c), 5.Paul Rook, 4.Doug Morris, 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Luke Walker, 6.Seb Elliott, 8.Matt Lee, 11.Stuart Calderwood
9.Dom Fowler, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Loksan Harley, 13.Aaron Dreeling, 14. Joe O'Neill, 15.Joe Robinson, 16.Gordon Lee.
2pm at Bulverhythe as normal, 1.45 at the church.
Last minute changes to the team due to the availability of Paul Rook and Luke Walker being confirmed today. From last week's triumphant side, Doug Morris fills the void left by Gary Williams, while Seb steps in for Stuart Batchelor in midfield, allowing Chris to move to right back and Paul R to make his second team debut in the centre. With Luke returning, Stuart switches wings while Loksan drops to the bench from where I am sure he will have an impact against a tiring defence. Zac Smtih is working this week, so Dom drops down from the firsts to add to our goal threat. Loksan is joined on the bench by Gordon and the available again Joes and Aaron.
A very young side with some experience at the back and upfront, with Gordon to bring on if we need a cool head. Our youthfulness will serve us well on a hot day and we have athletic players in reserve who can make a difference. The key to this game will be the midfield, where Seb and Matt reunite their partnership from a few weeks ago against Orington. We had a few teething troubles with neither picking up the right man at first but during the second they got it together and were an effective unit and I hope we carry that forward on Saturday. Those two will sort the set pieces out between them in the absence of Zac and Dale.
Doug will organise the back four and with the midfield and strikers we have scoring goals is never a problem. If we keep it tight the three points are ours.
The equation for the rest of the season is simple, 6 points from our last two games is the sole aim. I am watching the final league game of Torquay's season (and possibly near future) so won't be there. Richard takes charge in my absence. Please let him know at the game your availability for the last game of the season. Ian will be handing out voting slips for the player of the season awards. Please fill these in and hand them back to him if you can.

Eastbourne Dynamos v BBFC I (Away) 3PM KO:
Sat 5th May 2007
Team To Play EASTBOURNE DYNAMOS
1.Grant Lewis
2.Owen Davies, 4.Alan Cowley, 5.Max Sztyber, 3.Paul Ford
11.Dave Mills, 6.Ollie Jeffs, 7.Andy Mills (c), 8.Pete Cooper,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Darrell Hartley, 13. 14. 15.Gary Wenham, 16.
Meet at the Church 1:20pm Prompt. Let me know if you intend to go straight to Old Town Rec for 2pm...we don't want to be waiting for you unnecessarily.
Unavailable: Paul Rook, Gary Williams, Stuart Bachelor, Andy Poulter.
Team News: Pete is back this week after resting. This means that Gary Wa can resume at No.9 and Dom can help the 2nds win at Hastings Elite.
Grant is welcomed back after missing last week with a stomach upset.
Paul F frops into the left back spot in place of Darrell.
This is Dynamos first season and they are enjoying some late season form, having pulled themselves away from the bottom of the Division. Last week they beat Beulah 2-1 indicating that this is likely to be a stiff competitive match.
We are playing well at the moment, with Bryan in good goal poaching form. Our last encounter was a 2-1 win and I'm expecting another close result.
Just a reminder to those who are going to Manchester to give me their money now so that I can settle the bill.
We'll be voting for our End-of-Season-Awards this weekend so start thinking about your vote for these awards.
Players' Player, Young Player, Most Imroved Player, Frere-Play Award (Sportsmanship), and Clubman.

BBFC II v Belmont (Home) 3PM KO:
Sat 28th April 2007
Team To Play Belmont
Meet at Claverham at 2pm
I had settled on the team earlier on today but a mixture of some different suggestions of who to play where and some uncertainties over fitness and availability has led me to change my mind. I have not come up with the definitive side yet so to make sure everyone is aware if they are required in plenty of time, the following are all in the squad for Saturday:
Tim Nunn, Chris Mammone, Gary Williams, Elliott Henchy, Gordon Lee, Ian Nunn, Richard Ahsam, Matt Lee, Stuart Calderwood, Stuart Batchelor, Dale Scowen, Loksan Harley, Ant Hunter, Zac Smith, Dom Fowler.
The above will either start or be a sub.
The victory against Belmont earlier in the season is my favourite moment of the campaign thus far because we were without several players and had to fight hard for 90 minutes to secure the win. This is the spirit we need to show in our last three games to ensure we finish the season well.
As I had previously stated, this is our only opportunity to do the double over someone and the three points will help us get out of the bottom two. If we turn in a performance like the one that almost accounted for the league leaders last week then we can be more than a match for Belmont.

Burwash v BBFC I (Away) 3PM KO:
Sat 28th April 2007
Team To Play BURWASH
1.Grant Lewis
2.Owen Davies, 4.Alan Cowley, 5.Max Sztyber, 3.Darrell Hartley
11.Dave Mills (c), 6.Ollie Jeffs, 7.Andy Mills, 8.Pete Cooper,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Paul Ford, 13.Seb Elliott, 14. 15.Gary Wenham, 16.
Meet at the Church 1:30pm.
Unavailable: Paul Rook (injured).
Team News: Stuart can't make kick off at Burwash so is playing for 2nds (it's tight timing though!). This enables Ollie to reinforce his debut in his more costomary central midfield position.
Dom and Gary Wi have also been selected for the seconds and I can't really justify taking them as subs instead.

Cranbrook v BBFC I (Away - but at Battle Rec) 6:30PM KO:
Sat 21st April 2007
Team To Play CRANBROOK
1.Grant Lewis
2.Owen Davies, 4.Alan Cowley, 5.Gary Williams, 3.Paul Ford
11.Dave Mills (c), 6.Stuart Batchelor, 7.Andy Mills, 8.Ollie Jeffs,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Seb Elliott, 13.Dom Fowler, 14.Max Sztyber, 15.Gary Wenham, 16.Tim Nunn.
Meet at the Rec by 5:30pm. 5pm to put nets up.
Although this is officially an away game, we're playing at the Rec because Cranbrook can't play on their usual pitch.
Unavailable: Pete Cooper, Darrell Hartley, Paul Rook.
Although Pete is still resting his back injury, it's great to have Andy, Alan and Bryan back for this fixture. We missed them all big time on Saturday when we came up against a new-look Wittersham, fieldig 5 new players since we beat them earlier in the season. The sunshine heat contributed to some lacklustre performances on our part and Monday's game gives me a chance to have a look at a couple of players who have been doing well for the 2nds.
I want to have another look at Grant in goal and so I'm thinking that he and Tim might share the game. There are very good reports coming back about Ollie so he just gets the nod over Seb who worked tirelessly in centre midfield on Saturday. I hope the game might also open up a chance for Max to make his 1st team debut at centre half.
Cranbrook are bottom of the Division but we mustn't be complacent. They have been playing well and we only just beat them earlier in the season. They had some young nippy players who looked very useful when given encouragement.
I expect no such encouragement to be given to them in the way we defend...usual no-nonsense!!!

BBFC II XI v Pelham(Home 3pm)
Sat 21st April 2007
Team To Play Pelham
1.Grant Lewis
2.Matt Lee, 5.Max Sztyber, 4.Chris Mammone (c), 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Stuart Calderwood, 6.Ollie Jeffs, 8.Dale Scowen, 11.Joe O'Neill
9.Dom Fowler, 10.Zac Smith
Subs: 12.Richard Ahsam, 14.Ian Nunn, 15.Joe Robinson, 16.Gordon Lee.
2pm at Claverham as normal.
Everyone who was at Herstmonceux last week will be keen to put it behind them and produce against Pelham.
This will be a hard game against the league leaders, but Pelham will be wary of us following our demolition of them last time out and we must capitalise on this and be solid in defence while not being afraid to attack.
Team selection this week is partially dictated by our opposition and partially by those available. David and Steve joined the injury list and Loksan is away, so Stuart C comes in for deserved start following a couple of impressive sub appearances and Zac returns upfront. Joe O'Neill makes his debut on the left hand side. We have played Pelham twice now and the same player for them was their most dangerous on both occasions. He played upfront against us pre-season and on the left wing when were away in the league. He was lightning quick and this is the reason Matt and Max are covering that side of defence. If Pelham do change this then we will be flexible and change during the game. Because of this we have a very young backline but we have some great experience on the bench to bring on and stabilise the side.
With the returning of Grant, new keeper Andy Poulter will have to wait for his debut.
Pelham let themselves go in the second half last time we played them and we had to be at our best to maintain our high levels of sportsmanship. Please bear this mind on Saturday.
I am not about on Saturday due to a personal commitment, so Richard and Ian will be in charge. Please confirm your availability for the rest of the season to them at the game.
I have added a couple of pictures from the breakfast to the front page. The rest and the Herstmonceux game shots will be uploaded over the weekend when I have the time.

BBFC I v Wittersham (Home) 3PM KO:
Sat 21st April 2007
Team To Play WITTERSHAM
1.Tim Nunn
2.Owen Davies, 4.Paul Rook, 5.Gary Williams, 3.Paul Ford
11.Dave Mills (c), 6.Alan Cowley, 7.Stuart Batchelor, 8.Seb Elliott,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Darrell Hartley, 13., 14., 15.Gary Wenham, 16....
Meet at the Rec by 2pm latest. 1:30pm to put nets up.
I often wonder whether anyone at all reads what I write here. But the events this week have encouraged me - clearly some people do logon and read the messages.
This weekend we take on Wittersham who are no longer looking like favourites for relegation, as they did when we played them earlier in the season. Cranbrook have now replaced them at the bottom and Burwash seem doomed with only 2 games left to play.
Andy is out of action this weekend and Seb replaces Pete who will be resting his back...Pete suffered bad backpains after last week's game...please pray for a speedy recovery. God listens to all prayers and we want Pete fit again.
Hopefully the weather will be cooler this weekend and this will help to keep a high tempo. Stuart's return to the centre of midfield will help us to maintain high energy - a characteristic of our winning performances against Mayfield, Catsfield and Beulah. Some rain would be helpful too...the pitches are so different now to the boggy mud-baths of 6 weeks ago.
Don't forget that we have a match against Cranbrook on Monday evening.
Cranbrook can no longer play at Angley school and they are still looking for a venue...we've offered to play on the rec at Battle and there should be news about this over the weekend.
A big thanks to all those who came to the Players' Breakfast last Saturday!
It was a stonking success with about 28 people enjoying a great fry-up before going off to play...perhaps that partly explains the results!
Hopefully there'll be some pictures up on the site soon. There's a great one of Andy's breakfast and the Neville Barnett Trophy.
I also took some shots of the 2nds at Herstmonceux...we'll post a selection shortly.
I'm collecting in the money now for the National Christian Football Festival so if you've had a letter in the post please get your money to me asap.

BBFC II XI v Herstmonceux (Away 1pm)
Sat 14th April 2007
Team To Play Herstmonceux
1.Simon Cutler
2.Chris Mammone (c), 5.Max Sztyber, 4.Steve Chapman, 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Matt Lee, 6.Ollie Jeffs, 8.Dale Scowen, 11.Loksan Harley
9.Dom Fowler, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Richard Ahsam, 14.Ian Nunn, 15.Stuart Calderwood, 16.Gordon Lee.
After our superb performance against Beulah the only changes are forced ones with Doug, Ant, Jake and Ben unavailable. The returning Loksan, Dom and Steve fill the starting places.
There is one space on the bench, we may be filled by one of two people still yet to get back to me on their availability.
No teamtalk needed, play like we did on Monday and we will be too much for Herstmonceux. We must remember we are a good footballing side but we are not a good long ball side and so we should play to our strengths.
Despite the returning of Grant, Simon stays in goal as his experience adds a lot to our youthful side.
Please remember this is a 1pm kick-off. This means we are aiming to meet at Herstmonceux at midday. In order to all get to the ground on time, we will be meeting at the church at 11.30ish in order to lead at quarter to. I only know of one person going straight there, if you are then please let me know otherwise we will wait for you and risk all being late.
In case our convoy gets parted, directions are as follows thanks to Gary We:
The pitch is at Lime Cross (on left hand side of main road as you enter the village.) Changing rooms are in Herstmonceux Rec (you then walk across a cow field to the pitch!). Park around the back of the Woolpack Inn (or on main road), cross the road and walk up a small footpath to the rec.
See you all at the breakfast beforehand.

BBFC I v Little Common (Away) 4PM KO:
Sat 14th April 2007
Team To Play LITTLE COMMON
1.Tim Nunn
2.Owen Davies, 4.Paul Rook, 5.Gary Williams, 3.Darrell Hartley
11.Dave Mills, 6.Alan Cowley, 7.Andy Mills(c), 8.Pete Cooper,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Bryan Leggett
Subs: 12.Paul Ford, 13.Seb Elliott, 14.Stuart Batchelor, 15.Gary Wenham, 16....
Meet at the Church by 2:45pm latest. 3pm at Little Common Recreational ground. LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE GOING STRAIGHT THERE!
The late KO enables Little Common 1st team to Kick Off at 2pm for a home fixture in the County League and then the 2nd and 3rd teams to Kick Off at 4pm. The County League don't allow games to take place at Little Common alongside their fixtures.
In a convenient coincidence, our 2nds kick off early (1pm) away at Herstmonceux, enabling Hermonceux 1sts to play at home afterwards. This gives us the opportunity to support our 2nds before driving down to Little Common.
With the Players' Breakfast between 9am and 11am, this all makes for a full Saturday of football.
TEAM NEWS
Tim continues his spell in goal, despite stiff competition from Grant, who has now made himself available once more, and also from newly signed Andy Poulter who is keen to get involved when he returns from holiday shortly.
Bryan returns to replace Tom in attack. I'm hopefull that we'll see more of Tom once his exams are done.
Stuart would not normally be available but the late kick off means that he'll be around for the second half. Alan takes up his central midfield position. Stuart might also come on in attack if the situation needs it.
Gary Williams returns to central defence after being 'rested' over Easter.
Darrell gets the nod over Paul Ford at left back for this one.
There's a very healthy sense of competition for places in all departments of the team and our recent performances have given us a great optimism, self-belief and team spirit.
Last Monday we came from a goal behind to beat Beulah and we looked like a team that is determined to win. The more the game went on, the more we overcame our opposition.
Little Common pose a threat to our 3-game winning run. In the 1st game of the season we outplayed them and had chances to score before they were given a very dodgy handball decision for a penalty that won the game. They are aggressively competitive and will appeal for everything. Their Xmas position in the Sportmanship Table was 80th out of 82 teams. I expect a tough, physical test.

BBFC II XI v Beulah II (Away 3pm Bulverhythe - Tip/Garden Centre End)
Sat 09th April 2007
Team To Play Beulah II
1.Simon Cutler
2.Chris Mammone (c), 5.Max Sztyber, 4.Doug Morris, 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Matt Lee, 6.Ollie Jeffs, 8.Dale Scowen, 11.Ant Hunter
9.Jake Wilkinson, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Steve Chapman, 14.Ben Garlick, 15.Stuart Calderwood, 16.Gordon Lee.
After a solid performance on Saturday, where our inability to put the ball in the back of the net cost us we face our biggest challenge of the season in Beulah. They were losing 5-1 to Herstmonceux yesterday before the game was abandoned late on due to a serious injury. Herstmonceux have now moved further away from us and we need to replicate their win to keep in touch.
Despite some absentees, we still are able to put out a full bench for the again, with Zac, Richard and Ian amongst those unlucky to not be in the 16..
I know the subs yesterday were annoyed at the the little (or non-existant) game time they got. My apologies for this, time passed quicker than I expected and we were doing ok as a unit with no obvious candidates to come off. I will make no promises for tomorrow regarding substitutions. I did think over the selection for the game many times, and though people like Ben and Ant can only play when we do not play on a Saturday, I have put faith in those who have served us all season. Ben may well feature from the bench, for the reason he will not get another chance to play this season, but nothing is set in stone.
Our fourth goalkeeper in four games as Simon makes a welcome return. This may well be a farewell appearance due to his unavailability on Saturdays. He has done a lot for the club over the last couple of seasons and it is great both sides will be able to give him a good send off after the match.
The back four stays the same after doing well yesterday, especially the rock solid Doug and a highly impressive debut from Elliott. Dale and Ollie slot back into centre midfield, with Matt unlucky to be pushed out wide. David adds a real goal threat and a new option upfront, with Jake, fresh from not playing yesterday, there to support. Steve Chapman has been away too long and makes a comeback on the bench whre he is joined by Gordon and Stuart from yesterday and the aforementioned Ben. Despite two goals in two games, Zac doesn't quite make it. As Zac played the 90 minutes yesterday, it is Jake's turn tomorrow and Dale didn't want the competition for the long range free kicks either!
Anyone not in the final 16 please come along and support us. Remmeber we are heading back to the Rec asap after the game for tea and cakes and to (hopefully) lift the trophy. This is the game we have all been waiting for. Be ready and be winners. See you on Bexhill Road at 2pm.

11.Dave Mills, 6.Stuart Batchelor, 7.Andy Mills(c), 8.Pete Cooper,
9.Gary Walsh, 10.Tom Frere-Smith
Subs: 12.Darrell Hartley, 13.Seb Elliott, 14.Gary Williams, 15.Gary Wenham, 16....
Meet at the Rec by 2pm latest. 1:30pm to put up the nets.
TEAM NEWS
Bryan Leggett isn't available - his place is taken by Gary Walsh.
Gary Williams is back, taking one of the subs spots.
Dominic has a calf strain and will rest.
David N returns to front the 2nds attack in their important clash with Beulah II.
Paul Ford gets the starting place at left back and Darrell drops to sub.
Seb is fully fit and gives us options from sub.
The Bank Holiday weather forcast is great and hopefully this should bring out a large crowd of church members to support us in this League game. We'll also be contesting the Neville Barnett Trophy, which is an annual football match between Battle Baptists and Beulah Baptists (Bexhill).
Without prompting, the East Sussex Football League has arranged for our 2nds to be playing Beulah 2nds at the ssame time, so the trophy will be decided by aggregating the 2 scorelines.
After the game there will be refreshments for players and spectators (including hot cross buns and Easter Eggs for the kids). The 2nd team will get back quickly after their game in time for the presentation of the trophy.
We're at the top of the Sportsmanship Table so I'm confident that we'll be a credit to the Church we represent. This is important to me because this is our opportunity to show the church the great work we are doing - hopefully we can also recreate the football that has defeated Mayfield and Catfield over the last 2 weeks.

BBFC II XI v Orington (Home 3pm KO)
Sat 07th April 2007
Team To Play Orington
1.Grant Lewis
2.Chris Mammone (c), 5.Max Sztyber, 4.Doug Morris, 3.Elliott Henchy
7.Luke Walker, 6.Matt Lee, 8.Seb Elliott, 11.Loksan Harley
9.Dom Fowler, 10.Zac Smith
Subs: 12.Ian Nunn, 13.Richard Ahsam, 14.Jake Wilkinson, 15.Stuart Calderwood, 16.Gordon Lee.
Another youthful side this week (number 4 take a bow!) as we bid to get back on track with our first of three distinctly winnable games in a week.
Lots of people available this week for both sides mean we have the luxury of a full bench for the first time in weeks, despite some notable absentees.
I know some of the substitutes will be disappointed to be on the bench. However I have taken into account we have 2 matches in three days and I want to keep everyone as fit as possible. Seb and Luke will not play a full game due to having been out for a while, so I will certainly be looking to give three of the five substitutes a decent run out.
Ian was all set to play in goal, until I had a phone call from Zac this morning who informed me Grant would be available as a one-off as Tim was in the firsts. It as good to see Grant at training on Wednesday and hopefully he can do as well for us as Tim has done.
Elliott is our debutant for this week, and I hope the balance of the defence will be improved by having a natural left footer at left-back. This allows Loksan to push forward into midfield, where along with Luke I hope he can provide some good service to our front two. Zac gets a chance upfront, despite an impressive display in defence at training on Wednesday. He will be full of confidence having scored last week and I hope we trouble their keeper more than we did in the first fixture a couple of weeks ago.
Meet at Claverham at 2pm. Please concentrate when we are out there and remember the lines we are playing to are the BLUE ones, the white ones are for the athletics. We had been informed that this would not take place until after Easter, but at training it was apparent this was not the case.

Team To Play CATSFIELD

Meet at the Church by 1:50pm latest. or 2pm at Catsfield (tell me if you're going straight there).
TEAM NEWS
Gary Williams is not available for this game but is back for Monday's Neville Barnett Trophy against Beulah.
Dominic is taken from the subs bench to play for the seconds.
Tim starts as keeper after his promising debut last Saturday.
David N is doubtful to play 2 games in the weekend and will play on Monday. He'll get 20 mins against Catsfield if the situation fits.
Tom is back from University and we'll use him to keep other legs fresh for Monday.
Catsfield showed 3 weeks ago that they don't give up until the final whistle. Nevertheless we gave them a massive scare and we hope to do even better this time.
You don't get to lead the Division without having some talented players and Catsfield are no exception. But we have great players ourselves and with Tom adding to an already attacking side, this game against our neighbours is mouthwatering.
We played our best football of the season to beat Mayfield last week, as we rediscovered the knack of scoring goals and kept a solid defence. Week by week I see improvement in individual players and the team looks a stronger unit as a result.
No fear...this will be another stiff challenge for us - Catsfield want to be Champions and will be hungry for victory...roll on Saturday.

We are again down on numbers this week due to several injuries (Wes, Luke, Joe, Steve) and a few unavailable (Josh, Stuart, Jack, Simon). However we have a strong side out along with three very keen and able subs so there will be no excuses for a bad performance.
In a shift from last week, Dale has dropped back into defence and Chris and Matt have pushed forward into midfield. I thought Matt playd very well at the back last week but with Dale playing at centre-half to add some strength at the back Matt is needed in midfield. With Josh not around for the next few weeks, Chris pushes forward with Gordon filling in behind.
We didn't take our chances when they came last week and ended up paying for it. I know the conditions weren't great but they were the same for both teams and Orington played a better game than we did. This week we face the one-time league leaders, who we drew 4-4 with earlier in the season thanks to a great comeback capped by Bryan's superb last minute volley. We will need to show the same determination and be as clinical in front of goal to take the points this time around. They may have the best defensive record in our division but they have not had to face David in full flow, ably supported by Jake and our midfield so don't read too much into that! At the other end Max and Dale will be looking after Ibrahim Aqqad, one of the divisions best strikers and a consistent goalscorer. We cannot give him the same time and space we gave to Shane Ryan last week.
I am not about on Saturday so Richard will be running the show. If you have not yet confirmed your availability for the next few weeks with me then please let him know at the game. After Sat we have three games against 3 of the nearest 4 teams to us in the league so we need as many people available as possible to ensure we get 9 points over the Easter period.

Subs: 12.Owen Davies, 13.Alan Cowley, 14.Sean Tottman, 15...., 16....
Meet at the Rec by 2pm latest. 1:30pm to put nets up.
I want to start this game with the same team that put up such a great effort against Red Lion last week.
Both Owen and Alan missed that game because of injury to back and ankle respectively but they're back this week to strengthen the squad and ensure that we have quality substitutes. Seb hasn't made the progress we'd hoped he would and will miss this week.
Bryan takes Adam's attacking role up front. I've asked Sean to come along as sub in case we need a further attacking option.
We got through training this week without further injury (some may say that's because Andy wasn't there - but you wouldn't catch ME saying it).
training was in 2 parts. We had a proper (realistic) game down on the grass pitch before the light faded and we moved up to the floodlit area.
Next Wednesday, the first team has a game away at Little Common. The plan is that everyone who can make it will go to support the first team and then return to Battle for an hour at Claverham. Steve Mumford and Ian Nunn will be organising this since.
Don't forget hat the Players' Breakfast is approaching (Sat 14th April) and that I'm seeking your interest in the National Christian Football Festival in Manchester on 21st/22nd July this year - let me know if you're at all interested.
Mayfiled will be a tough game on Saturday. We know they have a pacey attack and score plenty of goals. But we have a stronger team out this time and I feel confident that we won't be so generous as we were back in February.
It should be a great game. See you Saturday.

PLEASE BE AVAILABLE TO CONTACT TOMORROW MORNING AS THERE MAY BE SOME CHANGES TO THE SIDE DUE TO SOME WITHDRAWALS FROM THE FIRST TEAM.
Wes' knee is currently in plaster following his injury last week and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
The team may also change at the other end as David is still recovering from a bad knock to his ankle.
I shouldn't need a team talk after what happened last week. We need to smarten up our defending and keep the supply line going to David and Dom. Orington have the division's top goalscorer in Shane Ryan. If we can stop him then we will get a positive result.
If you need a lift, be at the church for 1.45pm.

No Players Prayer this week.
Although Gary Williams is back on the scene this weekend, I've gone for Alan and Paul in centre defence. Alan's well-timed tackles are an equal for Gary as we saw last week when he stuck a foot in a couple of times to stop Magham Down from shooting. Paul Rook has made the other centre half position his own and will rise to the challenge again against Red Lion.
This switch enables us to try Stuart in midfield now that he's back to full fitness. Seb was due to have a place in the starting lineup but a cruuuuunching tackle at training tonight means that a full match would not be sensible, even if he makes the game at all. Seb has proven that he can play anywhere in the team and is a real asset to have on the bench and I intend to use him for much of the second half if he declares himself fit.
Training was packed full of incident this evening, with players going down left right and centre. Bryan Leggett deserved to be unconscious when he fell and cracked his noddle on the concrete...they make 'em strong up in Scotland! We really don't want to be without Bryan this Saturday since his partnership with Adam is improving by the game. Unless you're watching them, it's easy to miss the work that these 2 did last Saturday off the ball to form the first line of defence in our team. They learned from the previous week that their work prevents the opposition from passing the ball out of their defence.
This will be important for us again on Saturday because Red Lion's weakness is their defence. If we can put them under pressure and make them play longer passes, we're more likely to break down their attacks and put them on the back foot, even before their attack begins.
The fixtures are up on the ESFL website (see Links) upto 17th April. We have a Wed fixture on the 4th April (KO 6pm) as well as an Easter Monday church derby against Beulah at home on the 9th (KO 3pm). Check your diary because I need to be on top of availability during this busy end to the season when we have to play 10 games in about 6/7 weeks.

Red Lion play at Sports Park in Eastbourne and have had a mixed season winning 7 and losing 6 of thier 17 games. Oddly their remaining 6 games are all at home.
We have a great record against Lion, ever since we won there when Bryn Frere-Smith scored the only goal on the break and our defensive tactics worked perfectly.
With Gary Wenham away, there will be changes in defence and now that Stuart and Seb are showing good form I've some tricky selection decisions to make, so see you all at training on Wednesday.

Meet at Claverham by 2pm.
Sorry for the lateness in putting this team up, but I have been calling round a few people to ensure we had a full side out.
With Chris and Steve unavailable the defence picks itself, with Wes returning after a while out.
David was not going to be playing up until this evening due to an ankle injury but he will do us a half then we can assess our options. Aaron makes his debut on the right wing after some impressive displays in training, while on the bench Stuart, who is not 100%, provides cover in midfield while Jak and Zac offer forward options. Steve is aiming to be with us asap on driving back from the North East and his versatility means he could come on in a variety of positions.
Last week I was very proud of our performance, never letting ourselves down despite the antics of the opposition and scoring some quality goals. We should take it as a compliment that they cheated and we still won comfortably.
Last time we played Hastings Rangers they troubled us with two quick lads upfront. Max and Wes will have to be on top of their game against them. We also failed to test their keeper after an early strike from Seb and this is something we must do differently this time.

Meet at the Rec by 2pm latest. 1:30pm to put nets up.
Players prayer at the church at 1pm...come.
I'm naming the team with 3 subs though I know that Steve is finding it hard to raise a full squad for the 2nds because of the unusually high absenteeism this weekend.
With Gary Williams and Pete Cooper not avaialble, we've a few changes to the team that played valiantly against Catsfield last weekend. Andy Mills has recovered from sinusitis and takes up his captaincy again in central midfield and Gary Wenham drops into central defence from where he'll organise our defences.
Jamie returns in goal as Gary Walsh suffered a badly bruised finger in last week's game - I know he'll be disappointed to lose his place!!!
Seb Elliott retails his left-midfield spot having dazzled the manager with his uncomplicated skill whilst Stuart Batchelor returns as sub after completing 2 half marathons in 2 weeks.
There's a real aire of excitement at training tonight in anticipation of Saturday's game. Adam Johnson is looking to add to the hat-trick he scored against the League leaders and his strike partner Bryan is looking sharp too.
Last Saturday we ran out of steam towards the end of the game and at training tonight we were working on keeping the ball and protecting possession. At 4-2 up I want to see players working hard off the ball to support the player in possession. There's no such thing as a passive player since a well timed call for the ball will distract an opponent's attention and help the teammate to play the ball.
Magham Down will provide tough opposition again and will be confident having beaten us comfortably before Christmas. But that was then and this is now! Our starting 11 only has 4 of the players who began that game back in October when we conceded 5 goals in a mad 20 minute period of the 2nd half. Magham Down's confidence will be there downfall and the way I feel about our team now gives me massive encouragement. New players are starting to bed in and play well - Another positive attacking start and I can see us enjoying another successful afternoon.
Bring it on.

Unavailable: Pete Cooper, Gary Williams.
It was great to get back into the routine of football again yesterday and even better to get so close to creating the biggest shock of the season so far. If we can sustain the yesterday's commitment into next weekend's game, we should be able to beat Magham Down, who are currently sitting 5th in the Division.
Magham Down caught us on an off day back in October when we conceded several goals in a 20 minute period, eventually going down 6-2. Some Magham Down players seemed intent on being unfriendly and so we can expect a tough encounter. They had a strong centre forward and a quick wide midfield players who like to attack down the wings.
Like so many sides in our Division, they are less effective if we attack them and the Bryan Adams pairing will prove successful.
Looking forward to it already...

Meet at Claverham by 2pm.
A few dropouts today have led to a rethink in terms of formation and selection.
Team selection this week was influenced by a lot of injuries to our strikers, but Gary has decided to free-up Dom to appear for us and Jake has recovered sufficiently for the bench so we go into the gane with a strong side and lots of options.
Lets put in a real effort to start the game with a high tempo and not be dictated to. In defence we need to be sharp and physical. In midfield we need to keep hold of the ball when we have won possesion and upfront we need to shoot whenever we get a sighting of goal.
The match should go ahead without any problems with the weather forecasted, however the pitch will undoubtedly be a little boggy in places so we must be prepared for the odd dodgy bounce and slip-up and make sure we do not mess about in defence. We have an outlet upfront in David who can either hold the ball up for support from the midfield or flick it on for the pace of Dom so we should not be afraid to use it.

Players prayer at the church at 1pm. Top of the prayer agenda this week is the matter of a 3rd team. We need the Lord to speak to us if this is to happen. The more poeple, the more poewerful the prayer...please come.
I've thought through a hundred different teams for this week and when I came to a final decision, I notice that it's not greatly different to last week's selection...
Seb Elliot has been dazzlingly impresive whenever I see him play. He has good technique, plenty of speed and he plays the ball simply and accurately. I really wanted to give him the left midfield spot, but in the end it was too difficult to overlook Pete's experience (and especially his goals).
We have 5 excellent midfield players and when Steve said that the seconds would like Dom this week, I decided to play Bryan up front. We all know Bryan's abilities and I feel he can do a lot of damage in partnership with the enthusiastic energy Adam. I considered David Ndunduma - he protects possession very well but the conditions will be heavy and Dave still needs to develop strength and fitness.
There's certainly a healthy level of competition for positions at the moment. Whilst it wouldn't be sensible to make lots of changes at once, there isn't a single player who automatically hits the teamsheet.
Who knows how the rec will play. I expect it to be in an awful state after being used the last 2 Saturdays when conditions put paid to all but a few matches across the county. If Andy and his team can get the roller on it Saturday morning, that will be great, but still the surface will be untrustworthy. I want to run through some things this week so be prompt.
Catsfield are our friends and neighbours and it shouldn't be difficult to maintain our high standards of sportsmanship - it's a game that we can enjoy without the fear of plonkers! They are a great team and head the division currently so be prepared to work hard for your team. I expect unkempt hairstyles and muddy kit at the final whistle.
I love games that we're not expected to win...Great times start again this Saturday. I can't wait. Be prompt.

Unavailable: Jamie Pooley.
The weather is less likely to influence the start of this game since Battle Rangers have played on the Rec for the last 2 weekends and have already messed it up - there's little point in trying to protect the playing surface anymore. Besides which we're so far through the season that with only 10 Saturday's left, every Saturday missed now means we play a midweek game in April.
Playing the League leaders is a mouthwatering prospect, especially since Catsfield are our neighbours and friends. They are scoring lots of goals this season and we'll need to prevent them doing that in this game. Defenders and midfielders will need to be at their peak. But we know that Catsfield can concede goals too and if we attack with courage and conviction we'll put them on the back foot.
Thanks goes to the 8 who came to Claverham on Sat afternoon to play football...any less would have not been viable. We had a great workout but I was a bit disappointed that across 2 teams we only managed 8. Fitness and stamina will be a big factor at the end of this season - playing on heavy pitches and sometimes twice a week.

Please note that at the Committee Meeting on Monday I am prepared to defend anyone who hasn't yet paid their subs but beyond then I can't continue to select. Please bring your money on Saturday.
Here we are in March and we're not even half way through the season.
Saturday's game will be our 11th game out of the 22 and it's the first time we play a team twice, giving us the opportunity to do a double over Burwash. Although we beat them 3-1 a few weeks ago, they pose quite a danger with their quick youngsters - you'll remember the neat turn and clinical way that their striker scored their goal last time.
No risk defending is the order of the day, especially since the pitch is sure to be heavy. Swan Meadow is an end to end hill and it will be a 'game of two halves'. Burwash usually kick uphill first and then make the most of the downhill slope in the 2nd half by pinning their opponents in that half. When you're under the cosh at Swan Meadow it really feels like you can't get out of your own half.
We know that man for man we are a better team. But this is never enough to win a football game. As a team and as individuals we need to address a couple of criticisms that have been aired from our most recent games.
The first is that our heads go down when we concede. I expect that during a season my team will go behind in a game, sometimes even 2 or 3 goals down...but I also expect that every single player will show 100% commitment and determination to reverse the scoreline, stop the rot, or get a goal back. As soon as even one player gives up then the team is so much weaker and we're doomed. When 5-0 down at Mayfield it was encouraging that we rallied and attacked the second half with renewed endeavour and belief. It's up to every individual to do this, not just at half time but after every setback whenever it may occur!! What inspires me in these situations is the experience of the Manchester United team when they were 1-0 down to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final and they never gave up, eventually equalising and winning the Cup, without even needing extra time. Their experience this week also shows that you can score a hatfull of goals in a short space of time.
The second way we need to improve is by selecting to play simply. Football is esentially an easy game to play if you pass the ball simply and move your position!!!...PASS ans MOVE. At training this week I was encouraging players to stand still when they receive the ball - not to run with it. Space is always at a premium and you can create time for yourself if you just hold the ball and look up for the next pass, instead of trying to do something special.
The third and last thing to think about is attacking. We badly need ruthless goalscorers...players who will shoot (on target), make surging runs through the defence, cross firmly without looking up, exploit weaknesses. Sometimes when I watch, it looks like we want to score the perfect goal and our players are waiting for the ball to drop exactly in our path. We need to force things to happen...make chances out of half chances...compete shoulder to shoulder...be assertive.
If I sound critical, I'm not. This week I know that we are the better team but I understand that the best team doesn't always win...we need to work hard for each other...for the team.
On the eve of a game I always get nervous, thinking about situations and performances. I hope my words are received positively...I beleive strongly that we should always strive to improve ourselves (in life as well as in football). I'd like to believe that in a year's time we are all better players than we are today...and that the team will be stronger as a result. Believe me when I speak from experience that you will not be fulfilled if you stand still. Self improvement is the only way ahead.

BBFC II XI v Pelham (Home - 2pm KO)
Sat 24February 2006
Team To Play Pelham
1.Simon Cutler
2.Chris Mammone (c), 4.Wes Langley, 5.Gary Williams, 3.Loksan Harley
7.Paul Rook, 8.Ollie Jeffs, 6.Andy Mills, 11.Pete Cooper
9.Dom Fowler, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Gordon Lee, 13.Jack Hunter, 14.Zac Smith, 15. Stuart Calderwood.
As this week I had the option of selecting from any player in the club I thought I would take the time to explain my selections.
For starters, a few players have been added to the squad from the firsts. We have a few experienced people away from the normal second team squad and as such I felt we needed to add to the players we had. I had hoped to only select players who had already represented the seconds, but with Bryan and Stuart unavailable this was not possible so I added Dominic, Paul Rook and Andy Mills to the list as they are fit and versatile enough to cover various positions. Gary Williams and Pete have already played for the seconds so they were logical choices.
In goal, Simon has been recalled for one reason only and that is his communication and organisation skills. We are missing Steve C, Dale and Doug this week and they are the people in our side who run the show on the pitch and marshal the defence accordingly. Tim did very well last week and his commanding of crosses and shot-stopping was excellent, however one area of his game that needs working on is organising the players in front of him. To that end Simon has been selected as we would be very quiet at the back without him.
The back four is again different, with Gary Williams a direct replacement for the absent and sorely missed Steve Chapman while captain Chris Mammone retains his place after a great performance up against arguably the division’s second best forward last week. Alongside Gary is the returning Wes. Pelham have quick forwards and Wes will need to play an almost sweeper role to ensure we do not get caught with balls over the top for them to run on to. At left back I agonised over this for a while before plumping for Loksan. With Seb away it was a straight choice between Gordon and Loksan. Gordon did well last week and finished the game very strongly, however I did feel we lacked an option going forward and supporting the midfield down the left and this is the reason Loksan is starting.
In midfield the talismanic Dale Scowen is away this week, as is Matt Lee so Ollie and Andy form a new partnership in the middle. On the flanks I have put in the other two players normally associated with the firsts. With the players we have away we are light on left wingers so it makes sense for Pete to come in and play, while on the right hand side Paul R is selected as a defensive option to counteract the main threat from Pelham. When we played them a few weeks ago their most dangerous player was their number 9, who played on the left wing. He was by far the quickest player I have seen this season and he spent the whole first half just running at Chris trying to get in behind our defence. Paul is there to protect Chris and to cover for him if needed to make sure we always have someone in position at the back.
Upfront David retains his place and will be looking to add to his tally against Pelham of 3 goals already this season. Dom partners him as Josh and Jake are unavailable and it made sense to take advantage of the fact the firsts are not in action.
The bench picks itself, with the two that started last time out but are not in the XI this week and Zac and Jack.
Rest assured Pelham will be keen to give us a hiding and will be spurred on by our result last week. We know what they are about and what they are like and if we start strongly there is no reason we can’t make them crack under the pressure again. Last week we didn’t start well and it set the precedent for the rest of the match. Lets reverse that this week and get ourselves in the position where we can afford a free man at the back to mop up any attacks like Peche did to us.
The match is subject to a pitch inspection in the morning. This may result in a call for pitchforks, a switch to Sidley or a postponement, so check the site out and be by your phones in the morning.
Meet as normal at 1pm.

BBFC II XI v Peche Hill Select (Away - Bexhill Road - 2pm KO)
Sat 17th February 2006
Team To Play Peche Hill
1.Tim Nunn
2.Chris Mammone (c), 4.Doug Morris, 5.Steve Chapman, 3.Gordon Lee
7.Matt Lee, 8.Ollie Jeffs, 6.Dale Scowen, 11.Stuart Calderwood
9.Jake Wilkinson, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Steve Mumford, 13.Jack Hunter
We know all about Peche Hill having played them twice in our last three games. They have a danger man upfront, Asher Grindle, and it will be Steve's job to mark him tightly and try and restrict his influence. They will know they will be in for a tough game as we should have won the last one, and though we don't have the element of surprise on our side anymore we will be afforded some respect by the opposition now, and we should take advantage of that. Their defenders would rather mark a turkey with a runny nose than David after his performance against them three weeks ago and we must make the most of this and get forward and support him at every opportunity.
The match is subject to a pitch inspection by the ref at 1pm on the day.
Meet at Bulverhythe (garage end) at 1pm.

Subs: 12.Steve Mumford, 13.Joe Robinson.
A great performance last week and an excellent chance to start moving up the table. Many people are away this week, in particular our prayers are with Max and Wes who are ill at present. Those who had been on the bench recently were due to start anyway, but they are joined by the returning Doug Morris and Matt Lee. Joe is not yet back to 100% fitness so joins yours truly on the bench.
Orington are only just above us in the league. Lets make it the last weekend they can say that by continuing our good run.
Meet at Claverham at 1pm.

Subs: 12.Darrell Hartley, 13.Gordon Lee, 14.Richard Ahsam, 15...., 16....
Meet at the Church by 12:40pm or at Catsfield by 1pm latest.
Players prayer at the church at 12:10pm.
Richard is in charge this week and Gordon has generously agreed to help us out too by running the line.
Selection for this game has presented different difficulties this week. There are 12 players unavailable across the 2 teams and we've found it necessary to restrict the players taken as subs. Following some comments that I've heard, both directly and indirectly, I want to assure everyone involved in the Club that we stand by the principle that anyone joining the Club must be prepared to play for either team if selected. A situation where players refuse to play for a team leads to a divided Club and will result in negative competition and rivalry between the two sets of players. We must work with absolute determination to avoid this situation. I know I have asked for and I've been given your support in the past on matters of selection and I ask for your support once more. I answer to my boss on this matter so I urge you to pray to Him on the matter.
Thank you to those who have voiced their thoughts on this matter either to myself or to Steve, and I urge everyone to resist speculative talk. We must fight temptations that allow the devil to spoil what we have built in the name of the Lord.
I'm upset from a personal point of view, to miss the trip to our friends and neighbours Catsfield who are sitting at the top of the Division at the moment. As underdogs we can relish the prospect of causing an upset. Dispite some significant absentees, we can still put out a strong team as Mike comes in to the attack, Stuart into midfiled and Alan into defence where we know he is at his very best. It's brilliant too to be able to welcome back Grant in goal. We're indeed blessed to be able to substitute 6 regular 1st teamers with this quality.
Catsfield will be tough opposition. They have built a team over a number of years and with the addition this season of Ashley Jamieson from Hastings Rangers they are speedy and confident in attack and strong in midfield. But they do have frailties, especially in their defence. If we are to win this game we need to exploit these weaknesses and this is what makes this game a mouthwatering prospect.
Whatevr, I'm sure that it will be a great game of football, played in a great spirit...I look forward to hearing the result and listening to the reports. Enjoy the game!

Subs: 12.Mike Gould, 13.Simon Hockley, 14.Darrell Hartley, 15.Gary Wenham, 16…………..
Meet at the Rec. by 1pm prompt - I want to build on last week's team talk.
We'll be at the church at 12pm for Players Prayer. Please join us if you want to. -nets up 12:30pm.
After Saturday's encouraging win over Red Lion, I'm keeping loyal to the team that started - the one difference being that Bryan comes straight back into the central midfield to replace Alan who isn't available this week.
Burwash are at the top end of the Sportsmanship League and their players and officials are very good friends. I'm anticipating a really enjoyable afternoon.
As far as the football goes, I'll be expecting a similar level of endeavour as last week where it was noticeable that every player was working hard for the team.
Now that the really bad weather is over, it feels like we're back into the run of the season and we got off to a great winning start last week. I'm praying that this will continue.

BBFC II XI v Pelham (Away 2pm KO)
Sat 03rd February2006
Team To Play Pelham
1.Simon Cutler
2.Chris Mammone (c), 4.Max Sztyber, 5.Steve Chapman, 3.Seb Elliott
7.Ollie Jeffs, 6.Dale Scowen, 8.Stuart Batchelor, 11. Loksan Harley
9.Josh Mullett, 10.David Ndunduma
Subs: 12.Jake Wilkinson, 13.Stuart Calderwood, 14.Zac Smith, 15.Gordon Lee, 16.Wes Langley.
After last weeks positive return to action we name an almost unchanged side, with Josh in for the injured Luke and Loksan replacing unlucky Stuart C the only changes. My apologies to those who were on the bench last week as well this but I want to give people a couple of games at a time before giving someone else a go.
As I stated for one of the postponed games, Josh has a key role on the pitch, in that I want him to be the man on the goalkeeper at every opportunity. This means blocking him for our throw-ins and corners and running in on him as soon as we take a free kick, ready to punce on any rebounds or cause a deflection. Too often this season we have missed out on opportunities because we are reacting to what has happened and not being proactive and forcing a chance. I hope that by designating this as one person's responsibility we can overcome this in part.
Pelham are top of the table and are a good side who attack in numbers and score lots of goals. They played us pre-season and scored a few late on as we tired, but we are a much better side now. We have proved we can beat sides if we play well as a team and Saturday should be no exception. I had hoped to play 4-5-1 as we were away from but looking at the players we have available I have gone with 4-4-2 as it suits the team we have out.
They play on pitch 2, Buxton Drive, Sidley. Click here for a map: Multi-Map Image

A pitch inspection today 12:30pm found the pitch to be playable and the forecast is promising so God willing we’re on for a game of football tomorrow.
The pitch has been marked out and is ready to go just so long as there’s no more rain.
The team above has Owen at centre half and that’s because we’re playing Red Lion – Owen will understand the implication and to anyone who doesn’t, I’ll explain tomorrow. This unfortunately puts Simon on the subs bench. I pray that he’ll understand that he’s not out of favour.

Subs: 12.Jake Wilkinson, 13.Gordon Lee, 14.Tim Nunn, 15.Zac Smith, 16.Wes Langley.
As of Friday evening the game is ON!
We have a couple of debutants for this game, with Max starting after impressive displays in the friendlies and at training, while David will add some real quality upfront after regaining fitness. He should hold the ball up well and bring players into the game, something we have been lacking and he is an assured finisher as well. Finally it is great to see Stuart back. He adds so much energy into our midfield and add a good goal threat going forward as well.
As I stated for one of the postponed games, Luke has a key role on the pitch, in that I want him to be the man on the goalkeeper at every opportunity. This means blocking him for our throw-ins and corners and running in on him as soon as we take a free kick, ready to punce on any rebounds or cause a deflection. I hope that by designating this as one person's responsibility we can overcome this in part.
It is a shame we have had such a long time off having started to play cohesively during November. However the time off has allowed any niggles to rest so I expect 90 minutes of hard running from everyone on the pitch.
Peche Hill are the last side we played way back in November and though they beat us 4-0 we were not at the races and I feel we will put in a much better showing tomorrow.
Meet at the Church by 1pm. I look forward to seeing you at the Player's breakfast in the morning.
Any questions please get in touch.

2nd Team game is extremely doubtful
As expected Claverham is waterlogged and we are awaiting confirmation from Hastings Rangers that they have nowhere where we can play the game.
As a result, we have booked indoor training for the 2nds from 3-4 at Claverham on Saturday. This is open to those named in the 2nd team squad initially, please let me know if you are not planning on joining us and I can extend the invitation out if needed.
Remember to bring some funds for the hall hire as well.

On each side we have fullbacks and wingers can play in different positions so I am looking for them to overlap and switch during play. This requires communication and discipline, as we do not want the scenario where both players are in the opposition's penatly area, presuming the other one was back covering. However, simple give-and-go moves and balls down the line to run on to should not be out of the question.
It is a shame we have had such a long time off having started to play cohesively during November. However the time off has allowed any niggles to rest so I expect 90 minutes of hard running from everyone on the pitch.
White Knight are a competent side who have won as many as they have lost but they have a negative goal difference and we have proved we can beat sides if we play well as a team and Saturday should be no exception.
They play at Eastbourne Sports Park, by the hospital. Click here for a map: StreetMap Image
Meet at the Church by 12.30pm, or 1pm there. Any questions please get in touch.

Attention all 2nd Teamers
I am trying to ascertain the status of our game on Saturday. It does not look promising, but when I know for sure it will be posted here first.

It was great to hear that there were so many at training on Wednesday. Gary Wenham counted 38 and although we had to play 9 a-side, it’s fantastic to see our football club thriving. It backs up the theory that we need a 3rd team to keep everyone involved on a Saturday. Even better news was that one of the 38 was Stuart Bachelor who has suffered long and hard with his broken leg (x2).
Early disappointment this week however, since Saturday football seems totally out of the question at the moment - if you haven’t yet guessed from the names in the team above, the game against Little Common has already been called off because there is no chance of finding a pitch to play on…with current rainfall, we’d be much better off naming a side of swimmers (Greg Luganis is in the team because he’s been taking lessons from Gary Walsh).
The BBFC Committee meeting was conducted super-efficiently on Monday and was all over by 8:30pm but not before we had discussed the next Player’s Breakfast on the 27th. Details are posted in the NEWS section of the website but please spread the word because we’d like a good turn out. All the food is free and it’s usually a great way to start the day.
Great news came through to me about Steve Spicer the other day - I hope Steve Mumford won’t mind if I just copy and paste part of the email he sent. “Steve is awake most of the time now and on Christmas day he took
his first sips of water since the accident. This was only possible as his
kidneys are improving, which was excellent news. As a result of the accident
and subsequent surgery he lost 15% of his body weight which has made healing
slow and leaves him vulnerable against infection but the skin grafts
continue to go well. Pete went to see him on the 30th and gave him the shirt
which he was very grateful for, along with all our prayers and support.
Steve says things are going well but he is uncomfortable and finding it
frustrating as he will have to be in hospital for a long time. Can we please
pray for his morale and to keep his spirits high.”
On the other side of the coin a different email came in from Jamie Pooley. He had n accident on his mountain bike and had to be strapped to a board in order to be takento hospital. Thankfully, there is no spinal damage but Jamie is off work at the moment and is on crutches. Spare him some prayers.
One item from the meeting I must report is about Membership Fees. There are still a number of players who haven’t paid their £10 membership and the Committee made the decision not to allow anyone to play on a Saturday if they haven’t paid by the end of January. If you know you are one of the number who haven’t paid then please do so asap – I’m not looking forward to being in the position of telling someone they can’t play.
I’ve already booked Claverham from 12 – 1pm but it’s not available for longer this week. Please email me or call me if you’d like to play.
One happy player this week will be Andy who’s not available this week and hardly ever misses a game.
Please let me know if you aren’t around for the fixture against Red Lion on Sat 20th. Otherwise I’ll assume everyone can play.
By the way, for the uneducated...Edward John Smith was the captain of the Titanic.
Like it says in Matthew Ch14 v 25-32, we'll keep faith that we might get some football in next week.
